The Infamous Rattle, Neverending!

Alright so I checked EVERYTHING, bushings, mounts, control arm bolts, lower frame bolts, heat shields, DP, sway bar links, struts, steering etc... NOTHING is loose or look like it could rattle...

Today I noticed that it doesn't only rattle when I go over bumps at slow speeds but also rattles when I clutch out shifting into gears, powertransfer.. sounds like the mounts doesn't it? From looking at the mounts they look just fine, anything else guys?

I still think you should take the heat shield off...that's the most common deal with these rattles. You still have stock head/dp right?

Yeah, heatshield is on there tight, I can't even budge it with my hand and it has about an inch clearance... I'm thinking maybe it's this..

I drove a customer's Cobalt today with an annoying plastic rattle in the steering column...only over bumps at low speeds

this was definitely the steering column rattle no doubt in my mind

funny thing is, is that she isn't complaining about it and it's under warranty...

she came in for other problems and I didn't tell her about it

1) the service writer was being a dick to me

and

2) I can get into serious **** if I "upsell" warranty like that

if I could I would be rich off of GM right now.....they recently jumped on our asses about upselling leaks and turning rotors under warranty which can cost our company thousands and possibly more

GM can refuse our warranty work PERMANENTLY and they can also force our company to pay for all the upsold work in the past

Man they said already it's not the heatshield, you don't want to get rid of it because it's there for a reason. Are there any techs on here that have dealt with this steering column problem before and do you guys know if I'll have to get it replaced or there is an easy fix to the current one.
