Interior Noise

When I had my car I tried this (WD-40) and it still made the noise...I also tried some electrical tape and it still made the noise.
I really think (after reading some posts) that the back rear deck lid is the reason for the loud, thunking noises in the rear when you go over a bump at an angle. I think the rear deck lid moves out of place and hits against the rear window. As anyone tried to correct this?

i got the fix !!!!!!!!!!!!!i work at a chevy dealer and this cobalt pissed me off with a pop noise intermitting on turns and over bumps /finally when i test drove it with another tech i opened the door and the noise went away /we stoped i open the door and pulled up and down on the door striker and found the popping noise /so i called tech assist /suggested i r-r the striker and spot weld the door striker from behind and grind flat after /noise is gone !!! /now i can fix my intermitting pop noise on my 09 balt /so dont just replace the striker /it will come back becouse of a design flaw
Mine is definetly coming from the striker , If i adjust it one way or the other it makes the sound better or worse but never fixes it. So the striker needs to be welded to the car? I wonder why my 06 SS/SC didn't have this problem..... I wonder if they changed the striker design .

If i pull the striker all the way off is there a backing plate that is going to fall down on the inside of the jam ? I was scared to pull it all the way off cause i didn't want to lose what ever the striker screws ...screw into. Thanks.
On another thing , when i make a sharp turn going up steep driveway the whole car sounds like it flexes? anyone else notice that?

I put on a pair of latches from an 05 and the noise is gone! I took the original strikers and spot welded them both and will keep them as back ups. Now I still have the mystery rattle from the rear passenger side to deal with. It sounds like a metal clip rattle and very annoying.

Just the strikers on the body only! Make sure you use a torx and not an allen bit, they are snug but come off easy as they have a wee bit of thread lock on them.
Just use your hands to take them off? You used strikers plates from a 2005 Cobalt? Where can one get these?
Also, the strikers are the plates attach to the frame, correct? Where the door latch goes onto?

Thanks for the input...I do want to get to the bottom of this. It is has the dealership right now. This will be the 3rd time. My dealer suggests that I call GM and declare it has a lemon. Perhaps they will either replace the car or make a couple of payments for me? I don't know, but I am going to get something out of them since I have been in a rental car everyone month and every week with different problems on this car.

Well when you consider other makes of turbo charged cars that come with more or less the same features go for like $5000 more, one gets what they pay for i like my cobalt but you get what you pay for

I have a similar noise in the back when going up/down a curb/bump straight/angle that sounds like it's coming from both rear pillars. I noticed that when I dropped my headliner, to replace my moonroof, that the rear windshield (I think the front has them also) has these plastic clips that are attached to the windshiled for support that rub on the body mounts. One of them for sure had grooves in it. I didn't think much of it at the time but wonder if this could be a possibility.

06BaltCoupleLT: Did you take the plastic clips off and drive around with them out and tried see if the noise is happening? I may try to remove headliner and see if it works. I have a rattle in my sunroof as well.

i think i may have finally found the problem. like most of u i was getting that annoying rattling sound that sounded like it was coming from the passenger side rear pillar. i tried all of the other suggestions on this post and the noise was still there. it was getting to the point where i was ready to tear my car apart piece by piece to find the noise. so i started systematically checking the areas of the car i thought it was coming from. then when i got to the rear passenger side column (the one with the airbag running between the roof and the trunk) i found a set of wires and a tube of some sort running from the trunk into the roof. i believe it's these thing that r making the noise; when going over bumps or w/e the wires r hit against the roof or panel or something (since they'r not secured at all). so what i did was cover them with some kind of insulation (ac insulation tubing in my case) to keep the wire from making contact with the frame. i may b jumping to conclusions or just optimistic, but i haven't heard the noise since. only extended road testing will say for sure, but i feel pretty optimistic about this solution and hope others will try it with similar results to confirm. sorry for the long winded story, but i'm just anxious to b loving my balt again.
so wat i did was got some ac insulation tubing and used that to cover the wire and tube (u can use w/e u have). u have to take off the column (enough for u to work inside. i couldn't take it off completely without being scared of breaking it) and i took off the hanger thing so i could access the inside of the roof easier. i then covered the wires and tube with the insulation and fed it as far into the roof area as i could, then covered as much inside the column panel as i could. put it back together and ur done.
note: recommend u get as far into the ceiling as u can, especially the area where the panel meets the ceiling padding as i believe that's where a lot of the noise is coming from (unconfirmed). there should b a point where u can't go any further if ur sliding something along the wire. and make sure to close everything up. i left everything as it was when i was testing it (in case i needed to make adjustments) and i was still getting the noise. it wasn't till i decided to try close everything up that it stopped.
don't know if this topic is dead but i hope this helps. gl to u.

I had the frickin rattle show up too and was about to tear the interior apart when I had my brother in the car and he found it to be the sun roof. I could of sworn it was comming from the passenger door, but i put my finger against the rear of sun roof and wha la rattle gone. Any fixes on this one, it seems snug?

I use to have a huge popping noise when the car would flex. (driveways) After a year of not finding it i found out that it was the driver side door striker. The part of the door latch assemble bolted to the car. It was loose. Had to get a new part from the chevy dealer.

I don't have any rattles in my car, no joke. It must be just the luck of the draw.. Poor guys with the SS that spent over $20,000 on a car and it rattles like a ******* china cabinet during an earthquake, and here is me with the $12,000 base model that is as quiet as a baby.
If I do get rattles, which I'm sure will happen sooner or later, only 25,000 miles so far, I just remember, it's a cobalt, not a lamborghini.
