Keyfob/alarm

09 SS. My keyfob broke with the alarm set. Is there a way to disable the alarm in the DIC on an 09 or do I have to pull the horn fuse? My apartment complex is not happy with me with all the honking. Any ideas?

Once the key is in the ignition and turned over the alarm should shutoff and no longer be enabled.

Otherwise you can disconnect the battery for half an hour and see how that does.

The battery shouldn't help of I remember correctly

but yes once the car is turned on the alarm will shut off until you open the car again then the alarm will set off again. Taking the fuse might help but it would suck if you leave it sounding all day and you drain your battery best thing is to get that key fob fixed asap

Well...I guess then the next question is. How is your remote broken?

My remote has actually been broken for awhile now, both of them. First one took a dump a year after I got the car and the 2nd one slowly stopped working and stopped altogether. I actually just got new tires and wheels and was attempting to revive one with solder so I could get rid of the tire monitor light. Somehow it came back to life long enough for my ******* to hit the lock button and I didn't even realize it, because I was sitting in the house trying to repair it. I go out to the car later to go somewhere and the damn alarm goes off. After 3 hours of messing with it, I finally wrapped some tin foil around the back of the plastic buttons in the remote pad and it brought it back to life where I was able to use the unlock button. Ugh!

sorry to point out the obvious if you already know this, but if you just lock each door manually, you wont engage the alarm when unlocking it. ive been doing this since 2010 lol

I know. And I hadnt used the remote in a long time. Just tried to revive it so I could get into TPMS relearn mode lol. At some point while I was trying to fix it, it must have sent a lock signal to the car and it engaged the alarm. totally random and stupid. Of all the little crap problems Ive had with this car over the last 6 years, this one was the most frustrating. I was literally stumped; like what the hell do I do besides driver over to a Chevy dealership with my horn blaring in traffic, so I can shell out a couple hundred bucks for a new remote. But the tin foil around the rubber back of the buttons gave it enough life to be able to hit unlock.

It's weird that the alarm didn't shut off though. I had this happen quite often when my fob started not working. The lock would work, but unlock wouldn't. Out of habit I'd lock with the fob but couldn't unlock it without the key. Horn would beep once or twice till I put the key in, then would shut off fine.

Way to save $2.00 per car GM by not putting a switch in the door on the lock cylinder which would enable/disable the alarm via key.

GM MARK OF EXCELLENCE!

OP, why don't you just buy a few $10.00 fobs on ebay and either get them coded "requires Tech 2 or equivalent" or take that fob apart and put your circuit board in it?

I should've done that. I was stupid for messing with it to begin with. I was just tired of the tpms idiot light and thought I could get it to life long enough to get into relearn mode.

Just pickup a new set of buttons for your remote. Should fix it. Cheap on eBay.

NO STOP, SAVE YOUR MONEY.

These remotes have 2 problems, 1 Is the battery holder becomes loose and breaks the soldered and if you know how to solder you can fix this very easily

Problem 2 is the carbon pads on the rubber part of your remote gets worn down, Get a single hole punch, Tin foil and some super glue. All you have to do is hole punch out some pieces of tin foil and super glue them to the carbon pads. Ask me how it works lol

You don't need a new remote or rubber pad, Just do/check to see what is broken in your remote and fix it yourself and I will link a video about the rubber pad when I find one for everyone.

Hope this helps, Keep us posted

I actually got it to come (somewhat) back to life by wrapping the entire back of the rubber peice with foil, so I bet If I just use a hole punch size piece on the buttons alone it will work perfect! Ill give it a try tomorrow for sure.

The tin foil will work, but I would just spend the few bucks for new rubber for two reasons:

1. Aluminum foil is harder than rubber, and possibly harder than the contacts on the board, meaning that it could wear out the contacts sooner which are much more expensive to replace than the buttons, and

2. The glue used will likely fail, which would cause the foil to fall off of the rubber and then constantly act like you're pressing the buttons.

I would consider that foil fix a temporary fix while you get the new rubber piece, I wouldn't leave that for a long time

I somehow managed to lose one of mine in the move from Tennessee, so I've got one here with remote start that I need to take over to a friend's who has a Tech2.

I don't want to be responsible for messing up anyone remotes, So I agree on a temporary fix or at least understand the risk you are taking.

But on that note the one remote I have the foil pieces in I have been using for almost 2 years now...Daily.... But I'm not worried because I have 6 remotes and 2 cars that drive lol so I got remotes for dayz lol

Found this pretty awesome page. Shows the two common failures of the battery holder and a temporary fix for the carbon pads.

Well, Im about to take a hammer to both keyfobs. Soldered one, foil buttoned the other. Long story short, more uncontrollable horn honking for my neighbors. Ordered the button pad off Amazon for 2 bucks to see if that works, otherwise, Ill live with the tpms error forever.
