leaking valve cover

OK so since the day i got my car the valve cover leaked on the passenger side. I got it fixed about a week ago, and it is still leaking(not pouring out, just alittle bit)....just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have a 07 cobalt ss/sc with only 8800miles on it.

I have an 04 RL, never once had that problem. I'd take it back to the dealer and have them replace the gaskets and torque all the bolts down correctly.

Or just fix it yourself. Take the valve cover off and look at the gasket to see where it's leaking from. It's a fairly simple one.

Agreed -- the valve cover gasket is a big rubber "O"-ring, hard to believe it's leaking. It must be out-of-position, cut, or the valve cover itself has a crack/defect.

oh trust me guys i know it is an easy fix, used to be a tech at honda. I would do it myself, but it is warranty...so dont want it to come back at me. I have already taken it once, going tomorrow to show them again. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Yes, its a common problem. I have not had it myself, but I have seen it. It is usually the result of a tear in the gasket, or one of the tabs around the cam gear side is not in its notch.

thank you. i will defiantly keep that in mind. I will have them replace the gasket one more time, and if that doesnt fix it...make them go even further. I had to replace a tranny case on a CRV cause of oil seeping threw the pores in the medal. Automakers are getting so cheap now a days.

uh, what? There is nothing in this thread to lead you to think it's the head gasket.

Halfcent ....it says the head casting itself is porous and the reason for the oil seepage....

DON'T TORQUE THE VALVE COVER SCREWS! When I was putting my valve cover back, I was torquing the passenger side corner nut on top not the side to the torque specs specified in the haynes manual, and the screw snapped leaving half the screw screwed in inside the screw hole, and the other half well... broken off. I was PISSSSSED! But my engine still runs fine, no loss of pressure according to my pressure gauge. Its around the normal pressure it should be at. And there's no leaks. Everything seems to be fine. I even ran it hard. So I guess missing one scew won't harm anything, or leak. But since I have no leakage, then I'd say check your gasket. If not then there must be a crack. Cause if I'm missing a screw, and not leaking, then it's gotta be a gasket or something for you.

Yes, the valve cover screws are very weak. They are cast aluminum, and they stretch and twist very easily. You do need to be careful with them, and don't be afraid to replace them if you think they are damaged BEFORE screwing them back on.

Yeah, I followed that link and read that post. As I said there, I won't call him wrong, but it's like a billion to one that the head casting is leaking porously.

True...it's rare, but it can happen.

Talking

I posted this in another thread about this same problem...

Well this is a porus head... according to the dealership.... it took them over a year and two valve cover gaskets to figure this out... they let the car sit and run and eventully watched the oil start to weep thru the head, the oil doesn't pour out or leak out for that matter but builds up over time on the outer walls of the head. Cadillacs had this issue a few years ago. Weather you think it is a quadra-billion to one chance or not... it happens to the LSJ head. and they replaced my head and wow what a suprise...no more weeping....

All I am trying to do is shine some light on this annoying problem for these guys who have this problem like I had. So laughrun... i totally suggest you have your dealership call my dealership so they can confirm this problem.
