Sounds like the chain is a bit loose, you might be missing the lower chain guide bolt if your tensioner is fine. Time to pull off the valve cover and have a looksee.

Passenger side of the head right next to the engine hoist point if you have one.

Thanks for that.

So I'm a bit confused. That guide down there breaks because the bolt backs out? And this is supposed to be a fix for that?

Sorry for all the questions

Sorry I had to post twice and separate a few things this is the only way I could post without it getting deleted.

Yes you are correct and also the bolt can break too.

I think mongrat

Is the name of a member on here who has a fix if you have a broken bolt. But I would only do this is temporary fix.

But like I said it is temporary and would look into this, esp if you need to get in there change a broken guide anyways this will avoid future issues. VV

Update: I changed my tensioner and all went well. At first it sounded the same but I just drove my car again. My noise actually got a lot quieter which is great.

I would want to replace all chains and guides but I'd really rather wait, the car only has 58k and it is stock

The guide breaks because the tensioner isn't doing its job well. The bolt typically breaks because it was over torqued and snaps. There is a good permanent fix for it with the large bolt that mongorat makes now. The other alternative is to get the sheered bolt extracted and put in the ARP bolts which are 12.9 bolts.

The bolt also breaks from someone not using loctite and reusing the bolt. It eventually backs out

I'm hoping I can get a set of bolts before Sunday when I'm going to be changing out the guides.

Doesn't mongorats bolt go against the other existing bolt holding it in position? or taking its place if it does break? I have the arp bolts but now I am curious if I should get the bolt mongorat makes and install it for extra safety ? Also If you don't mind explaining or showing me what exactly his bolt does?

Update: The tensioner fixed my noise. The car runs a lot better now and has no noises. Anyone with noise there definitely try a new tensioner first

That's good man glad to hear you fixed her.

Also just wanted to say thanks for posting up an end result for future members who may encounter this problem.

Exactly my thinking. A lot of threads have no end result. Also big thanks to you and the other guys who helped me out.

Also interested in that bolt

Can confirm Omiotek is right, there really is a spring in that tensioner. No idea why I doubted you, you've been in this world longer than I have

I ended up replacing my entire timing set except for the sprockets. That guide was messed up.

Yeah there's definitely a Spring. Mine came set so I had to take it apart.

Guess they were rough with your package and the tensioner got excited

the tensioners ratchet into place. it takes some finaggling to get it into the position to put it in. make sure the recess is lines up with the correct piece on the guide.
