Yeah I plan on getting a new 06 ss/sc I love the cobalt... and I would actually have a hard time leaving my baby... but I would be stupid to not accept a new one.

I just called GM again (forth of fifth call)

Asked for an update, he said he was still waiting to hear back from the regional manager...

I told him thats fine... I advised him I still had two pending issues and when I go in for service for them, I will have logged over one MONTH of service time... I also told him the real reason I was looking for any update was because I am seeing a lawyer tonight about this...

Now what pissed my off was his response to when I told him I was seeing a lawyer tonight. "I understand and you've gotta do what you've gotta do..." ARG...

But I reassuered him I wanted to settle this out of court and am simple looking for a collateral swap (to an S.O.M. G85)

You can do the compass calibration yourself easy enough
Here's how

First you need to set your "Magnetic Variation Setting"

1. Locate your current geographic location on the World Magnetic Variation Map (attached)
2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. Press and hold the switch COMP button until a zone numbers appear (scrolls) on the compass display
4. Keep depressing the switch for the compass to select the desired zone number.
5. Wait 5 seconds. The display will return to a compass heading or ===

Now you must calibrate the compass
*Do this in a large parking lot where you can safely drive around in slow circles a few times

1. Start the engine.
2. Press and hold the switch for the compass until the letter "C" or "CAL" is displayed
3. Drive the vehicle in circles at a speed of less than 8 km/h 5 mph until the "C" or "CAL" is replaced by a proper heading

The calibration procedure is now complete

Its not the compass... its the outside temp sensor.

AFAIK, our cars don't have a compass...

But thanks for the shot.

Ahhh right, I was thinking of the IONs
When you said it needed "calibration" I just assumed...
But there is no calibration procedure for the ambient temp readout

The sensor may have just come unplugged. It can be accessed by removing your LH headlight
There is a 2-wire harness with dark green/white and yellow/black wires that plugs into the sensor that is clipped into the plastic headlamp support/bezel. Did you install a K&N CAI by chance?

No but I recently had my Left (driver side headlight) removed due to a wire short underneath the unit... they prolly broke that when they were in there.

Thanks

Last person I knew that went through a buyback wound up fighting almost a year trying to get them to take it back and wound up getting closer to trade in value anyhow so watch out. Even after they agreed to buy it back they took over 60 days to do so and at the end started trying to lower the amount even more. Im screwed if this happens because my GM discount forces me to take it to an arbitrater, same deal with my friend car, his father-in-law works for gm. Maybe in a regular court you will have better luck. Also the 30 days in the shop are not for the same problem, so expect them to throw that at you.

Update:

Ok so after talking to my GM HQ Rep... he says he is still waiting to hear back from the Regional dude... my hq rep said he put in like 5 message and he has not yet heard any response. He also said that he informed his supervisor about the situation.

Does this sound like a load of bull or what? I don't know what to think... I am to hear back from him on Tuesday with the an updated status (wether he heard anything or not)

BUT I have been waiting over a week to find out.

the regional people stay VERY busy...im really good friends with the one for this area...he is like a mole. plus, not to make excuses for them, but there is alot involved that they have to look at when doing something like this...it'll happen though, i wouldnt worry about that..i mean, its only been a day since you gave them the list...

I've had some problems but not that many. I still have a rattle in my exhaust, but I'm going to replace that eventually.

You'll most likely never get a good reaction to telling someone your getting a lawyer, unless you're at a hotel or resturant, where they can't afford a lawsuit.

now mention legal action...matter of fact, give him an timeframe, like by friday or something...

i wish this was me, i would be all over this guy. calling everyday. hell, tell him to give you the regional guys number, and then ask for the guy that is over him (the regional guy) as well. the best way to wiggle a chain is to start at the top...especially when you have been as peaceful as you have about it

I spoke with him today again, and he said he called my "home" dealership and confirmed that the problem was originally fixed. The same problem that cropped back up again 3 days later.

He then have the senior service manager at my dealership call the regional guy and leave a msg with him. He (the gm rep) also left yet another msg with the regional.

I am going to sit back and wait a couple of more days. If nothing turns up... then I will push a little higher up on the chain.

DMan: Thanks for the advice.

All: I would love to hear other P.O.V.s on this matter, feel free to speak up.

Thanks,
Rich

I just had my base coupe in for a rattle in the front left when driving on snow and a leaking front right strut. They replaced the strut no problem, but to get rid of the rattle they replaced the intermediate shaft, steering rack, and steering column, and the noise still hasn't gone away. Going back again next week

Its over...

GM and I have settled...

They've given my a free extension to my Bumper to Bumper Warrenty...

Feb 21, 2010 or 87500 miles... (thats B2B)

I was hoping for a swap... but I do love my car and especially love the color... so a free extended warrenty isn't to bad.
