Noob problem. :/

Hey all, I have a little bit of worrying going on as of yesterday.

I was driving my girlfriend home, and she doesn't know how to drive stick. So I was showing her how it felt by putting my hand over hers and kind of shifting for her- long story short, I downshifted into 2nd instead regularly shifting into 4th, and I was going pretty quick too (well, quick in terms of a stock 2.4). Went up to around 7k RPM, and I instantly popped out of gear to prevent engine damage.

I understand that it's a very stupid mistake, but I've never done it nor did I ever expect to, as I consider myself a decent driver. I know this can blow my engine.

My car runs fine, But I'm honestly just wondering if I could have damaged anything in doing something like that.. Stupid! Please no hate, I just need to ease my mind. I really do love my Cobalt~

Thanks guys, hope you're all having a great weekend!

If it's still running and not making any strange noises then you're ok.

Pretty much sums it up, revving to 7k is save that's where my limiter is.

You are fine man. Certainly not good for it, and she got a good lesson on what NOT to do though lol.

I used to work at a Honda dealership and saw a 6 speed Accord come in that did this. However he managed to go from 6 to 1st... Last recorded engine speed was over 11,000 rpm and it put a hole in the block. Mechanical over-revving is a bitch

u know iv done this to, but I get on the clutch pretty quick. idk why these ecotec cars bust stuff when they hit rev limiter hard, isn't the rev limiter supposed to protect from stuff like that. if its not protecting, why is it even there to begin with. guys breaking stuff in the head when hitting rev limiter hard. pretty shitty limiter if u ask me if it doesn't do its job.

It's limiting over revving of the engine and having the valves hit the pistons which is much more costly than say a recent thread where just a lifter was broken. $50 part vs $3k engine so I think the limiter isn't the issue.
