i might get an aftermarket warranty that covers the steering and tranny only... lol i need the steering now, but the tranny warranty is for when it can't handle what i plan to throw at it!

Another dissatisfied power steering customer. I can go days without it coming on, but the other day I was on the highway doing 90 and it went out.
My friend who used to be a GM tech told me they would replace the steering column and told me it wouldn't take him more than an hour to do it if I could get him the part.

Since it sounds like this is happening to the '09 Cobalts as well, I assume that this would then mean that an OEM factory replacement by the dealer would be just as prone to fault as the original.
Is there an aftermarket Pep-Boys/Autozone/Napa replacement that'd be more reliable?

i just took my car to a chevy dealership here, they did a diagnosis and found out it was the box underneath the dash i think its the steering control assembly or something like that, i didnt have a warranty but they replaced it for free,i seen the repaid bill and it said 135

My '07 2.4SS just had the power steering go out on it a few weeks ago. The dealer replaced the power steering motor and a 'steering gear' and the problem is fixed. I read somewhere here on the forum that if that wouldnt have fixed the problem then the next step wouldve been to replace the entire steering column.

From what I've heard, it's not the power steering motor that goes bad, but the torque sensor in the steering column. In fact, if you order a new column from GM ($479 was the price quoted me, although my friend who works for GM could get it for $359 and said their price was $329), they don't give you the power steering motor or control box.
The problem with the torque sensor is that it is integrated into the steering column and you cannot change just the sensor, you have to replace the whole column on the 05-07 Cobalts. I think in the 08 and up Cobalts, the torque sensor can be changed without replacing the whole column.
Sure enough, I replaced the steering column with one I got off of ebay ($110 shipped with a steering wheel, PS motor, wiper control, ignition) and I haven't had the power steering error message come up once since. Not terribly hard to do. Takes about an hour if you know what you're doing...probably 2-3 if you have to figure it out as you go.

Any update on this issue would be appreciated? From what I read, it seems to be the engine harness.
I have the same problem where my dash says "power steering" and then at some points it says "low fuel" and the rpm drops to zero and then goes back up.
Please provide an update as to the correct solution if there is one?
Thanks!!
