Oil Changes

I have a question about the LED Display in the panel cluster on the Chevy Cobalts. It gives a readout of the Oil Life %.

Most of the time when I get my oil changed at the dealer, this number reads 100% when they are done. However, there have been a few instances where the Oil Life % number stayed the same. Whenever the oil is changed, is there a sensor that automatically detects that or is done manually by the technician?

I only ask because today I caught them red-handed for charging me for a tire-rotation when they didn't do it, and I'm wondering if they have been screwing me over on the oil-changes as well.

Thanks!

Levon

you have to reset the guage... the manual is your friend...

with the car off, turn the key so that everything works, but don't actually start it... push both buttons on the DIC and it will display Oil Life Reset

Hit the button on the right side, and you're good to go.

I do not belive that the car "sense" a oil change, the mechanic is supposed to rest the oil life % when they do a oil change. You should be able to reset it your self by holding the reset button when oil life is displayed.
