Oil on the garage floor

(2005 Cobalt SS/SC) So, walked out today and found probably 5-6 drops of oil on the floor under the car. Looked under and saw the bottom of pan and motor a little brown (but not sure if it's oil or just dirt from the road). Anyone have had issue like this? Is it common with these cars or should I take it in for a service check? It looks to be a very slow leak and oil level looked fine in the car. I searched for this but only found the LNF factory oil leak information.

Thanks-

I get about the same amount. Mine is coming from the bottom of the oil pan, not sure if it has a small crack on the bottom that I just can't see or if there is something else that I can't see. I've replaced the drain plug and seal and it had no effect on anything.

yeah just crawled under to check. It looks like its somewhat watery. Condesation maybe? But it still is pretty dark brown looks like water mixed with some oil.

Yup - idiots at the dealership who changed it overtightened it. Will have to let the car cool down and loosen it up later.

I just ordered an entire new housing, ring and filter from GM Parts Direct. Going to swap it out myself.

Update - just jacked up the car and put it on stands. Looks like the oil pan RTV is leaking and it's not the filter housing after all. Is this a common problem on these cars? I have seen a couple threads about it when searching.

Tried to get a video from under the car. It looks like maybe a combo of the pan + filter housing? Not sure?

Check your drain plug.

If the car sits for an extended period of time, some oil will seap out of gaskets.

Checked the plug it's good. Plus there is oil around the pan but even higher than that it looks like. It leaks when the car cools down and sits for a matter of hours.

Eh so took to the dealer they swapped out the filter and cleaned out the housing. Didn't seem to be leaking all day yesterday. Pulled it into the garage yesterday and no leak. Came out this morning and there is a trail of oil from the passenger side to the garage door WTF! Dealer said they will look at it again for free. The Pan is not wet now like before but the oil still looks like it is trickling down from up above down the passenger side of the underbody. Crank shaft seal?? No evidence of any leak from above but I can't see around the crank pulley from above.

Thanks lol just got back from the dealer. They put dye through the system and I'm going back in a few days to see where the leak is.

So, it isn't an oil leak lol After the dealer cleaned up the "oil," I parked the car in the garage and found some more fluid under the car. I was looking at the back of the motor and saw this down below:

Is this some sort of power steering leak coming from the rack? I have never had issues with this on any other car I've had.

EDIT: Followed the leak to the passenger side axle looks like this is where the leak is coming from. How difficult is this to replace?

Just as an fyi, we have electronic power steering.

U will never have a power steering fluid leak in a Cobalt.

Glad u found the leak though.

Try re-torquing the bolts to spec.

I took it to a dealer. They have been extremely helpful and had the car up on the rack twice for free. I purchased a warranty with the car so it's getting fixed tomorrow under warranty thank god. They said the seals have failed in two places. It looks like the head has been off the car possibly internal work has been done or an aftermarket/ported head was put on the car.
