Oil leak, turns into major overall(possible engine replacement)

(lol overall) ->overhaul. haha
2006 LSJ. 86,000 KM

First heard a major rattle coming from the engine, then noticed the smell of burning oil.
Then pulled out of the driveway and spot a pool of oil.

Oh dear

It's at the dealer, and they have since taken the engine apart. They have not diagnosed the issue as of yet, but I'll provide an update.

The tech said it might be toast, and need a full replacement.

I have had this car since 76,000 km, so I cannot say how the previous owner had taken care of the car. I did buy it from GM optimum used and the bumper to bumper warrenty is done in 1,000 km. (phew) So that should cover any incidentals.

Looking forward to finding out what the failure was.

*edit* stock, except injen CAI

well I'm curious to see what they have to say about the problem, but you are one lucky guy, 1000km to go. Maybe consider extending warranty if they do replace the motor and something else goes wrong.

So I stopped off at the dealer this morning, and my car is basically a shell. The engine, the tranny, basically everything from the drive train is removed. It is quite the scene to walk into. No diagnosis yet from the tech. He has to still find the problem, then create the quote for GM. He thinks it might be something in the crankshaft.

More updates to come... I'll also try to get some pics lol

** Update **

Just got off the phone with the tech and the problem was the crankshaft. GM has approved a complete engine replacement. I am pretty pleased with how this worked out. I purchased the car with 76,000 km, and 10,000km later I get a new engine. =)

I met my new engine today, which will be installed next week. Little meet 'n greet. We had a long discussion about our plans for the future. We are going to be best of friends.

On the original engine, found out that the crank was damaged, as well the bearing was shot. And there was a few shavings coming off. They nearly did a rebuild over replacement. I was about 800 bucks short on the quote to require a replacement, luckily the mechanic worked a few more costs in to help me get a new engine. (yes I did hump his leg)

Honestly, since it's extended warranty, dealership will most likely just throw the old engine out.
