also if you ever READ the back of a Mobil1 full synthetic quart it states change oil 5-15 THOUSAND Miles... there aren't lying. otherwise it would say 2500-5000 miles change oil so they can get MORE money out of you. but if you look it says 5-15k

I do engine oil analysis on my oil when I change it just to make sure the engine and oil is in good shape. My analysis from the last oil change at 50K miles was that the motor had virtually no wear showing in the oil. I have always used Mobil 1 extended performance and changed the oil when the DIC says so. That analysis was done on oil that had been in the car for about 8000 miles and the TBN was still at 6, so I probably could have gone another 8000 miles if I wanted to test the oil every 1000 miles to make sure the TBN was still good. One important thing to note; I always change the oil filter at 50%.

Typical Mobil 1 from test results I have seen should have no problem going to 7500 miles before being changed, but I like to use the extended performance oil just for the peace of mind. Plus, the extended performance is a group 4 base stock oil where as the other mobil 1 oils are only group 3 now.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to wait until that thing reads 0%. That would be in the 8-9k mile range, and I don't even use synthetic oil. I change it at 3k miles, when it reads 65% or so. Call me old fashioned.

Sorry for being such a newb its just I have owned Fords for the last 7 years, and these cars are throwing me for a loop.
No worries, all Cobalts use the exact same filter.

I don't use the oil percentage system I just change my oil every 2500 miles with royal purple. The reason for this is cause I switch between GM Stage 2 PCM and Stage 3 PCM often. I switch often because of octane mode and wanting the comfort of A/C. When you switch out the PCMs they log the oil life percentages making it difficult to use the system as the primary oil monitoring way for me. Thanks GM for disabling my A/C on the racing PCM

It seems counter to what you'd think, but you have it backwards. The Extended Performance oil is actually the hydrocracked Group III oil and the regular M1 is still a full conventional synthetic Group IV. The link on their web page is broken right now, but you can verify this by pulling up the MSDS (material safety data sheet) for each oil and looking under the "Contains" section.

Even though it isn't a full PAO-based synthetic like the regular M1, the M1 EP is still a good oil and should provide good protection. It has a much higher additive package concentration, which is what allows them to specify it for 15k-mile change intervals on vehicles without an oil life monitor. Synthetic oil may shear down but will generally not lose its lubricating properties, it can only hold so much contaminants is suspension (which is why a good filter is important to capture the larger particles), but the additive being used up is what normally limits the service life of synthetic oil. This is why the EP oils have a higher percentage (and nearly all additives in modern synthetics are non-synthetic, so technically even a full Group IV oil contains some conventional oil base in the form of the ad pack).

One thing to note is that the M1 Extended Performance oils do not meet the GM4718M and GM 6094M standards like the regular M1. Technically the M1 EP does not meet warranty requirements when used in the LNF cars.
