Part throttle surge?

Part throttle surge?
I installed a header and catless downpipe a few weeks ago. There is a small leak at the header/downpipe flange. I have noticed that when accelerating gradually, between 3-4k there is a very slight hesitation/surge until I get into boost or 3/4 throttle, then it accelerates evenly. I only throw codes for the cat being gone, so I'm wondering if someone else has experienced this symptom because of an exhaust leak...
The throttle body and MAF are clean, althought it could use some new plugs.
The car runs fine other than that though.
