Passenger seat airbag sensor
#5
Any idea on the value of the resistor? I've seen anywhere from 2 to 6 Ohms. Im looking for another seat from a salvage yard that has the sensor cause I cant find the part number from GM, but I've heard they are expensive. What about just pulling the fuse for the airbag system for the time being? From what I've read if the light on the dash is on, none of the airbags work. So disabling the whole system if it will get rid of the dash warning would be fine until I can get a new sensor or something figured out.
Whats weird is that when no one is in the passenger seat the dash light and DIC message comes on. When someone is in the seat, neither warning on the dash comes on, but the indicator shows the airbag is off. It doesnt make much sense.

Do you happen to know anything about resetting the PPS? When I had the passenger seat out, I had to start the car and move it and thats when the warning came on, and Im wondering if I need to reset anything before sticking resistors in there to try and get it to go off. Should it be as simple as disconnecting the battery for a few minutes?

Dude, I have had this problem forever and the only solution is to get it fixed. 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts - GM Parts Nation - Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Buick, Saturn, Hummer & More!
Its the expensive #8 part #25902223
And according to every place I talk to, they call that gel pad the seat cushion heater, and the sensor is in the foam cushion and is calibrated to that specific cushion. Its a PITFA

Well the thing is, my cloth buckets didn't have heated seats. And to me, if it did, it would have had one of those in both seats, which it didn't. Plus, that gel sensor had the same type of warning sticker on it as the rest of the airbag sensors around the car. It sounds to me like the dealerships dont know what the hell they are talking about.

Is it the actual seat or the seat belt because they had to replace my seat belt, try this take the seat belt out of the little doo hickey thing that pulls it over your shoulder and then when the seat belt is fully retracted crank the car and see if it comes on if it doesn't come on instantly pull the seatbelt and it should and then you know it's the seat belt tension i think it was like $18 for a new seat belt got covered under warranty anyhow

On most cars you can't get the bag separately when you replace anything in that unit you have to get everything as each component is calibrated to one another. Then usually the unit needs to be capa rated with the air bag module so the air bah module knows what information it is receiving.
Pulling the fuse will do nothing, just unpower the air bag module.
More then likely none of your air bags will deploy while that fault is in the system.

No, its not the seat belt. There is a little gel filled bag that mounts in the seat pan. Its the pressure sensor that turns on and off the passenger airbag depending on if someone is sitting there.
I know that none of the airbags will go off in the event of a crash. Thats already been covered. And each piece doesn't have to be calibrated to each other. Thats why you can swap seats between models, and as long as they both have the airbag sensor, just unplug the stock one and plug in the new one and be fine.
Like I said, a simple trip to the junk yard should rectify the problem.
