PCM crashed?
So I start the SS/SC in the morning before work to warm it up and I notice the CEL.. On the way to work I stop by AutoZone to scan the PCM which showed rich code P0172..I'm thinking maybe it was my MAF finally going haywire after getting wet over a hundred times so I have him clear the code.. I then tried to restart it and head to work, but it wouldnt.. I'm like what the heck and try again. It started on the 3rd try and immediately died. It never restarted and a code never reappeared. Now the car is at the dealership confusing the techs as to what the problem is. Note that on my way to have the PCM scanned it seemed to be running fine.. My car has been at the dealership for like 4 days and the techs are now resorting to process of elimination starting with replacing the PCM. They said they checked all the sensors and cleaned them, my question is this...Is it possible for the MAF to be bad without the PCM knowing? Any ideas about why it won't start? Thanks

All I can think of is the plugs fouled with carbon and need to be cleaned.
Did the car smoke alot when you through the 172 code.
Another thought could it be bad gas,did you fill up recently before it happened ?

the car cranks but won't start, the plugs were cleaned and still wont start. The plugs arent the cause of problem though. I did just get gas the night before it happened...I didnt notice any smoke from the tailpipe

I highly doubt the MAF would be bad without the PCM being aware of it. If the techs checked all the sensors ( not just cleaned, but check for voltage in the specified ranges) and theyre fine then it would slowly work its way down to the PCM it self. If they follow the trouble tree in the service guide theyllk find the ansewer to the problem. replacing a module is always a last resort

well the PCM was supposed to come in today and probably installed by now. No call from the Service Dept saying the car is ready so I'm guessing the PCM wasn't the problem.. I bet they are still scratching their heads, I wish I had my car back, it's been gone for almost a week now

I thought so too, but apparently its possible because thats what the problem ended up being, lol...They didnt catch it before because the PCM wasnt indicating so with a specific code. It was only throwing a rich code and thats it..So it is possible for the MAF to malfunction without the PCM knowing...Guess I got it wet too many times from having an open filter... hmmm Can anyone say "Airbox Mod?"
