Thumbs up Power Steering DIC problem

I had the same symptoms as many CSS members: power steering pops up on DIC and loss of power steering. No real cause just seemed to be random.

At the back left corner of the fuse box under the hood next to the EPS fuse there is a gray connector with a red wire coming out of it. I discovered that the connection seemed loose.

So I removed the wire from the gray connector with a screw driver and pinched the female end of the wire so that the connection would be more constant.

Now I don't know for sure if this fixes it but it's worth a shot, I will be driving her tomarrow and will report back with an update. Just wanted to get the info out so others having the same prob wouldn't pay ridiculous prices from the dealer for something so small.

Usual disclaimer applys: Only someone who thinks they can actually do this should attempt to do so. Myself and CSS.net take no responsibility if you mess it up and your car explodes...or more likely your power steering ceases to work.

MODS: If I have overstepped my bounds please just let me know and I will remove this. Also if in the wrong section please move to appropriate area.

Well it didn't fix it, but it did seem to help a little. Only happened a couple of times today. The dealership here is unhelpful as usual. Looking into this more myself. Anybody got any ideas?

Wish I had that kind of money, the column is $565. A new motor is less of course, but I wont have that money anytime soon.

I am having trouble finding an EPS motor anywhere so looks like I'm gonna have to hit up the dealership at some point.

On top of the transmission near the back. It occurred to me though, that if that was your issue, your speedometer would be unresponsive, or at least a little wonky as well.

the power steering motor is on your steering column. you take off the black plastic that would be above your knees just by pulling it off, there will be a small bracket held on by two 7mm bolts.

when you look more toward the firewall, if you look to the left, you will see a black cylinder coming off a housing that is about the size of a pop can. you will also see a small black box coming off that same housing.

the black cylinder is the power steering motor which could be your issue, obviously GM had a recall for the motor, but if your instrument cluster is "spazzing out", you must replace your power steering control module (which is the small black box attached to the housing)

hope this helps.
