that is exactly what i get... car actually feels more stable on highway and in curves... altough it takes everything to do 90 deg. turns.... as soon as you turn the steering wheel more than 60 deg the power steering feels like its back but the tires wont go back to straight position by itself
but why doesnt it show up on the DIC ???

I am really pissed off. I have the same power steering problem. after I drive about 5 to 10 minutes it goes off and shows up on my DIC. WHY THE **** DOESNT GM RECALL THIS? It seems like alot of people are having the same problem. There is no way im spending $1000 dollars to get this fixed when it should never even happen in the cars life. Where can I buy a new column? If anyone knows a cheap way to fix this please let me know!

The only alternative is to

1. Notify your dealership because they are receiving bulletins on this and will not be surprised at the problem

2. Buy a used one off of Ebay and take your chance with it. There all going to fail at some point because they all have the same issue. So buy time iwth a cheap way out

The reason why GM does not recall it IMO is because the same Steering column is in the HHR, Cobalt, G5, Redline. Thats ALOTTTTTT of recalls that they may not be willing to take

estimate of cost for powersteering

So I went to the dearship today to see how much exactly its going to cost and they said the steering column alone is like 550 and the labor will be 300 so with tax im looking at about 900 bucks to fix! Its bullshit gm dont recall this but i guess i gotta just bite the bullet and it done!

If you go up there....... They know theres a problem with it. Argue with them on why they should fix it.

Plus even if they replace it, chances are that its going to go bad again because its the same column they have problems with. So you might find yourself paying another $900 here in about 2 years. Because they arent going to cover that part either. Junk yard it the best bet IMO.

add me to the list of power steering, it doesn't really bother me but it's annoying, one trip within 30 miles I turned the car on and off while driving about 5 times but 90% of the time its only once or twice. For the question about how it feels, it basically makes you feel like you have no ability to turn at all and the car feels really heavy. Just for ***** and giggles I drove home that way once since it's only a couple turns and my arms were killing me the next day. Guess I will call a dealership and see whats up with it.

For those that had it replaced and had an 05 or 06 did they change out everything including the steering wheel? im trying to visualize the scope of the fix.

So i tought my problems where over.... now i hear loud clunks comming from the power steering motor, whenever i go fully to the left or fully to the right pulling out of my parking lot or making hard turns.... anything to do with the sound you can hear from old coil springs ???? feels like power steering's back but could it just be going from 15's to 17's changed tire contact thus power steering feeling different or 'back'?

My steering went out yesterday and it was a ground short in the motor. Warranty is up but only 19000 miles so they are fixing for free. There needs to be a recall before someone gets in an accident.

My power steering also went out.

I've always liked GM alot but because this isn't a mandatory recall I will be very cautious of buying another GM product again.
