Problems Due To Aftermarket Filter

Well Guys and Gals....

Just got my car back from the dealer today, I was having engine light problems, the car was hesitating in power, a loud rattle noise and other little problems... So I took it to the dealer a couple times with them telling me they would get it to do what I was having problems with.. So finally the last time I took it to them, I was the one driving the manager around so I could show them it was doing it...

Well finally they know its having problems and I get a call June 19 about my car's Cat was gone on the car and that was the cause of the engine problem but they were still working on my car so I stayed in my rental.. Well I get a call about it today saying it was finished (today at in June 20).. I talk to them down at the dealer. Well apprently because I have an aftermarket cone filter on my car is cause clogging and eventually over time cause my Cat to melt on the inside..

Needless to say, my dealer did the work under warrenty despite my aftermarket filter.. But I have been warned that I need to change it back to stock otherwise if I have this problem again it will not be covered under warrenty.. Fair enough.. So I am going back to stock cause I don't want to have a bill for a Cat.. I think in the end I got lucky that my dealer was nice enough to still warrenty my cat and all the checks and the rental truck..

Just a head up if you have these problems.. This could be the cause..

That's bullshit! The filter will not cause the cat to clog. This is an issue just about everyone has had with their Cobalt. The stock Cat sucks on these cars and melts on the inside.

they actually are having some problems with the aftermarket cone filters. it is due to over oiling.

Yeah it can clog a cat. It coats your MAF and throws off your AFR which runs your car lean or rich, and then fries or clogs your cat. In this case it sound like it fried it.
