Rattling Noise

So I have a 2010 SS/TC and I am getting a strange rattling noise from the timing chain side of the motor. The noise is very inconsistant, it will come and go but latley it has been getting worse.

When you first start the car up you will hear it for a few secs then gone, no other noises at idle, give the gas a light rev and you will here the rattle then goes away.

While driving when coasting to a stop in gear you will hear it then engage the clutch and no noise, come to a stop and nothing...Put the car in gear start out and you will hear it then in tends to go away at higher RPM...?

Any ideas??

thanks!

Two different noises.

The first is likely the cam phasers not parking when the engine is shut off. When's the last time you changed your oil? Also what type/weight of oil are you using and what filter are you using? If you change the oil/filter and use a good synthetic and the noise is still there... don't worry it won't hurt the engine. GM is working on a fix.

The second is gear rattle. Its a normal noise created due to tolerances within the transmission. All manuals do it.

Turned out being a broken guide on the timing chain, all replaced and noise is gone.

hey Boosted,

I recently replaced the timing chain tensioner in my 05 ss/sc. Been good for a week but yesterday started to make a specific noise in the chain area...def coming from chain. Took the car down to the chain and saw the upper guide was broken. Was this the guide you were talking about?

Thanks,
LemonLaw
