so they replaced the steering column, it WAS NOT the problem.
"well we called GM and they said that's what the problem was" idiots. I told them day one about the sway bar linkage, they just blow it off. They keeping the car over night and should hear something tomorrow on what they think it is now... lemon laws here i come...

Haz l33t wheelz.
powergridinc.com, look around, they have some for the cobalt, 159.99 and you will never have that issue again, especially on a lowered car.

1. take off wheel
2. loosen the nut on the top and bottom (18mm), you will need a wrench to take off the bottom nut.
3. if the nut spins hold the other side with some vice grips, it doesn't matter if you wreak them, they are going anyway.
4. If the nut is not moving try soaking it with some WD-40 or something
5. Remove the endlink and install the new one.

I have a 2009 Cobalt SS Sedan with the same issue that is being talked about here.
So do we have a consensus, is it the endlinks or the shaft?
I am going to try to get this fixed at my next oil change....
Is there a TSB number associated with this seemingly common problem...????
