Reverse lights not working (not switch related)
Hey everyone, I finally got around to joining the great community here and I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to solve a problem I have been having for a few months.
I am having problems with my backup lights not working when I put my Cobalt in reverse. When I pull the shifter down into R, the drivers side light will come on for about 6 seconds and then fade out as long as the right bulb is removed from its socket. If both bulbs are in their sockets, nothing happens at all.
We pulled both bulbs out and did a voltage test on the sockets, and both showed 12v when the car was put in reverse, so we know it shouldn't be a switch or fuse issue. Right now we are thinking possibly a ground issue, but of the wires we have pulled and checked we aren't finding any issues with any of the wiring.
Has anyone else experienced these problems? Thanks for the help!
Btw, I am driving an 07 SS/SC if that makes any difference at all.

Good morning scotty1186,
I checked the resources I have available and wasn't able to find anything to help you troubleshoot beyond what you've already done (check fuses and replace the bulb). I'm sorry! If you decide to get this checked out with one of our dealerships, please let me know as I am available to assist in whatever ways I can.
All the best,
Sarah

Thanks for looking into the problem. Sounds like taking it to the dealer is the next step, hopefully it wont get too crazy expensive to get the problem tracked down. Hopefully it is just a short in the switch somewhere and if I replace it and trace the ground wires I can get rid of the problem.
