Rockers are starting to lose paint underneath? por-15 time?

06 cobalt 75k miles. I noticed a piece of paint missing on the rocker after I pressure washed the car. I crawled under and noticed that my rockers are starting to peel paint. However they start still solid and don't look rusted at all from the OUTSIDE and don't look pitted. The 'face' of the rockers are still solid and not missing any paint, it's just the underside. It's all fresh metal where the paint is missing.

So what can I do? Sand the underside of the rockers and apply some por-15? Rust neutralizer? I know at least one advance auto here sells a quart of por-15 for $56. Not sure about any rust neutralizer. I know the local auto body supply here may carry por-15 too.

Will a quart suffice or do I need something smaller to paint just the underside of the rockers?

If you really wanna do it right, clean it, paint it, and then powerwash entire underbody. Then you can apply the por15 to everything,

I might lol. But like I said I don't see any rust. so I think now would be a good time to just por-15 it but I've never used the stuff before haha. If I go through with it I wanna do it with the right prep and paint, etc.

Should I just wash underside rockers, sand down, wipe down, then put a few coats of por-15? or should I just use the whole por-15 degreaser, metal prep, and por-15 it? I don't really wanna top coat it cuz my car is already black lol

Por-15 is good stuff! My neighbor just applied it to areas on his black Dodge Ram with a sponge brush. It turned out pretty nice! He got the kit at an auto paint store. It says you can paint it right onto rust, but I'd sand as much rust off first, clean, degrease, and then Por-15.

make sure you prep it really well or else it wont stick. it will get moisture under it and then really cause some rust

So sand all the paint off to bare metal? I ordered some por-15 metal prep too. The paint that appears to be flaking off my rockers are near the front wheels I assume from the slush that accumulates from the tires.

get some thin edpm weather stripping and put it on the edge that wears and the issue of paint rubbing off is gone. (i'm assuming that is the area your talking about cluelessk)

Yup. I'll probably buzz it down and use windshield urethane primer. But a thin weather strip is a great idea.

Work in a body shop so its not a big deal

What do you guys think about me doing my entire rockers with por-15 + por-15 top coat gloss black? My car is already GM black and I wouldn't be painting any finish coat to match GM black but just leave the gloss black por-15 top coat. So it would be somehing you could see if you looked down at the car and would be visible. I think my paint code is wa8555.

Do you think it would look weird? I have a cobalt ls. The only pics online I can find where the rockers don't match the rest of the vehicle's color is on pickup trucks or jeeps. I've seen people here in michigan coat their rockers with black paint or bedliner and leave the rest of the car alone and it doesn't look funny. The other day I seen a maroon buick century with flat black rockers and it didn't look bad at all - I just cant find pics online for reference. I just don't want it to look tacky.

Also, I don't have an angle grinder or electric sander. What's the best way to go about stripping the paint by hand? sanding block? 60 grit? 80 grit?
