Rotten Egg Smell...help!
Hey guys, I've searched and found a couple answers to this problem. A rotten egg smell could either mean a bad cat, camshaft sensor, or some other kind of sensor. The car smells usually when i start it up in the morning.
The other threads however didn't mention anything about a CEL so no codes where checked. My other thread I started stated that I punched it around a corner, the car cut gas and died, and a rotten egg smell and CEL appeared. I don't have the CEL anymore but could the dealer check the history of CEL's??? That should narrow down where the problem is shouldn't it? Need advice please.

normally, its a bad cat. Which once a lot of fuel gets in there and sits, its bad anyway. But, sometimes times dealers can get the codes. But, in reality once the light is gone, so is the code. There are a few times when the code will turn the light on and then the light goes off and the code is still there. But, not always.
Just take it in and have them check it out. Its not a uncommon problem to have.

The rotten egg smell is most likely a clogged converter.

it will store the codes for a little while. I think maybe 3 or 4 trips. Which one trip is turning the key on and off. After that it clears all codes that arent turning the light one. But, im not 100% sure on that. I know thats how it works on Saabs though
Its a lot better to take it in with the light on. If its a intermitten problem go stright to the dealer when the light is on and dont shut the car off once you get there.

I think I smelt it on my car for like 1 second today. I was pretty sure I didn't let one so I'm almost positive it came from the car. No CEL and the smell lasted for literally like 1 second.

I had that egg smell a few times in my car. Then I changed my diet.
Seriously though, a guess would be a bad cat. No matter what it is...it should be taken in and looked at. Will be warranty work.
Your CAI shouldn't be a problem unless you have ********* working at your dealership. If so ask around to find a better one.

Usually if a cat is clogged or shot, you should notice a difference in performance.

Probably just the coating burning off. All the new exhaust systems I have ever had did it to one degree or another.

also new cats sometimes emit a very harsh smell when the car has been driven hard. I had that happen on my corolla once. After I hit 1k, I took it out and really beat on it for few hours. when I got home it had a stink to it. hehe

Hydrogen gas is a by product of incomplete combustionand it smells like rotten eggs.
The smell on start up is the raw unburnt gas getting into your cat.
You will smell it going up a hill freqyently when behind another car when the guy is accelerating up the hill.
I would bet your car is stalling because it is flooding and if so your cat is screwed
because the raw gas in the cat causes it to melt the core into a blob.
But I copuld be wrong.
