Speedo's in cobalts

Hey i took my ss/sc to the dealer to have them check the speedo out and it was 5-10 mph off. meaning if i was going 55 the speedo was saying 60-65....So with all that, this is something everyone might want to check out before getting a speeding ticket when you wasnt really speeding.

Mines about 3-4 mph high, so i'm always going a little slower than i think i am. But its perfectly acceptable as long is its within something like 3-4%. I forget what the percentage is.

Unfortunately thats an acceptable accuracy according to the law.

In Calgary we have random signs in playground zones displaying how fast you are going and it always seems to be a few KM slower then what the speedo reads. I figured the sign was just poorly aimed or something.

Usually the cops go by their own radar speeds....not your speedo...

dude, hes talking about whenever he thinks hes driving 55, he is really driving 60. This could be a problem when you pass a cop doing what you think is only 7 over. When in reality it is more like 13 over.......

He just said his speedo was 10 high at 55, not 10 under. So when you are doing 13 over, you're really doing only 7 over.

You car's speedo is ussually off a certain percentage from the factory on purpose , for liability of course. If you look up motorcycle speedo's in general ( yea I know your talking about cars, it's an exagerated explanation ), you'll find that everyone speedo is off sometimes up to 12%-15%. When I do an indicated 90 on my bike, I go by the tach in sixth gear which is 78 actual. It's the same as in cars, or else you'd have people who get pull over for 10 over saying that it's chevy's fault because they were only doing five indicated over, but if that were true, you probably wouldn't be getting pulled over than, per the percentage offset.

mines 5 miles under you guys may want to get this checked out for sure because if your speedo is off the mileage on your car may be different then what your car is displaying IE if you have 20k miles you may actually have less or more. How this hurts you is if you come up to 36k and your tranny falls apart and they deny your warranty claim and you really have 35k on the whole care

Speedometers are calibrated to be accurate at 55 mph, below that and your actually going faster then what it is readying and above it your going slower. I can't stand the setup on the speedo anyways. I go by my gps readout instead, but my speedo is pretty much dead on with it.

and cops usually give you an 8 mph leeway over the speedlimit unless they are really in need of reaching their ticket quota or the area has speeding problems.

Exactly! and well said. 8mph is a good leeway but usually you can get away with 9mph. Unfortunately if they want to pull you over bad enough, they will find a reason to do it.

For example, i have been pulled over twice for "not maintaining my lane well". This was total BS and it should have been more like "driving a red camaro at midnight on a saturday night"

also remember, tires wear down, and that'll effect it a LOT. don't believe me? measure tread on a new tire, and one on a almost worn out one, sometimes it's like a half inch.

the 225/45 has a larger diameter than the 215/45 we have stock. Its 9mm taller overall, 4.5 on each side.
