Spray paint troubles.

Decided to spray paint my front and rear Chevy logos gloss black. Front came out awesome. But when I peeled the tape off the rear one, the paint stuck to the tape and ended up wrinkling in some spots. I plan on repainting tomorrow but wanted to know, should I sand it down first? And if so, what type of sandpaper would be best?

if you want your chrome surrounds to remain do not sand those. use an adhesive or paint thinner to get off existing paint. wipe down with alcohol. tape off nicely. sand with a high grit sandpaper like 1000 maybe. tape off nicely. keep paint can warm before use. light coats.

Then let it sit over night, and pull off the tape SLOWLY , that way the paint doesn't come off with the tape.

Great advice. Thanks much. I do plan on keeping the chrome. I've no idea why the front logo went fine and the rear didn't.

I used plastidip on my logos, it worked great, cause i could just peel off the the dip off the chrome part.

painting those sucks. paint never lasts. no matter how good i do it, sand, prime, clear, just paint, whatever, it eventually peals off. thinking of just getting an aluminum one and putting it on.

Wow really? Would I need to restick it with double sided tape?

This.

Pull them apart.

Clean and prep the non chrome portion and paint it well.
I used an enamel UV top coat on mine.

Decided to take off the top part of the Chevy bow tie and sand it and repaint. I ended up breaking it in half. So it's off to the junkyard to find another one.

Small blade to get it started, fishing line to pull it the rest.
