Squeaky fan???
Ok, so a few of you and myself included have the same problem with the fan. It's ok on the high setting but if you put it down to 1 it sounds like the blades of the fan are touching something and it makes a constant squeaking sound that really irritates me!!!
I've avoided bringing it in yet because I have other pending issues and want to get everything done at the same time. (pass. side panel lifting, bezel around the sunroof control keeps falling down) I'm sure something else will happen and then I'll do it all at the same time.

1.) Heater fan
2.) Passanger side trim
3.) Rattle in exhaust

I've replaced one in an LS sedan for a squeak under warranty. Not only did I hear it while it was running but after I pulled it out you could hear it by free spinning it and see some rust at the bottom of the motor. It was a PAIN to pull out, they are molded as part of the case and have to be cut out via a razor blade. Funny thing is that they also have the holes molded in to bolt up the new one, go figure.
EDIT- btw- mine doesn't squeak....yet

Same problem here. It only does it on the first setting. Sometimes it is hardly noticeable, and other times it's loud as hell. I've thought about bringing it to the dealer. But I've brought my car to the dealer before for other weird noises and they always tell me they don't hear anything.
I thought maybe it has something to do with the air filter in the glove box needing to be changed? I tried getting at mine but was unsuccessful. After dropping the door down, I can't figure out how to get the filter out.

looks to be a common problem, I did what your doing, I got it all done at one time during my 36000 mile check up. It was all done under warranty repair.

mine used to only do it while coming to a stop, now it does it all the time, on any fan setting..... 1, 2, 3, 4--doesn't matter. still does it. kind of like a squeak+rattle. not loud enough to really annoy me yet, though. I'll just get it swapped out before my warranty runs out @ 36K.

I rought my car to the dealer yesterday, not only for this problem but for a few other noises that I finally got sick of dealing with. The tech that's going to be working on my car told me that he just had another Cobalt in with the same problem and had to replace the motor. He said that GM states the newer motors are better, so hopefully it does the trick.

I only have the fan rattle problem, turns into a mini-blower-whine at anything above 2. Probably the motor, I suspected bearings initially but that would have been a nastier sound. If this is the worst I get I'll be happy, the Cobalt is the first american car I've owned with any issues that weren't brought on by operator error (My neon had a problem with the radiator, but that was after I attempted to mate it to the trailer hitch of an F-150 ).
