tsb on it...dealer will put a screw through the top or something like that (under the plastic bezel). I gave up on the stock shifter and put in a b&m.

Yep...the plastic part came detached (not the cable linkage)...happened to me as well...take it to the dealer or fix it yourself...pop off the cover and you'll see a plastic thing down near the pivot.

This was a problem with 04's and 05's (redline and cobalt), I believed they fixed it for 2006.

i found the solutiong for ppl that have the stock shifter lol take out the shifter *** and take off the spring u really dont needed put the shifter *** back on and thats it so far it works fine with me lol its the spring thats in there thats making the knob pop up as it gets loose from every shift

I had the same problem, but mine was already drilled and tapped with i believe a 5/32 bolt which I changed to a tappered allen head bolt cause the original would allow the knob to spin
