Thumbs down Steering column keeps going bad - GM Blames Pedders

So I'm on my 3rd steering column. It keeps breaking and sounding like a bunch of loose bolts in a bucket at slow speeds over bumpy surfaces. Chevy dealership refused to warranty and said that it's because I have the car slightly lowered on pedders. Any input?

Had the same issue on my LS when I first bought it, was home stock, after 3rd column the issue hasn't returned ans it's not 60k later and lowered on sportlines with konis

never heard of this issue before, i've been lowered since 2008 with no problems. I doubt your springs caused this.

I had my car lowered for one summer, that was the ONLY time I have had parts randomly break on the suspension/underside. Went back to stock height and I haven't had a single issue since

Talk to Gm customer service on here. They can't deny your warranty on a party and blame it on something else unless they can prove part b directly caused part a to malfunction.

Also ive been on h and r springs since 2006. No issues.

Like I said I went through 3 columns on my LS and it's lowered on sportlines which are much more aggressive than pedders and the 3rd column is finally good and held up for past 60k miles. This one went through 3 columns since last July and they won't fix it now. Lets see if Sarah will have any input on this but I don't see how slightly lower springs would anyhow affect the steering column. Knowing the fact that my warranty expires end of this month and **** is already breaking is making me not like this car at all :-/ I have a feeling I'm going to spend next years fixing it like I did with LS.

Oh yeah and I have obnoxious brake squeal which they said they won't fix because GM says it's perfectly normal for performance brakes. It's very embarrassing when people turn around and look at "wtf is making that horrible noise"

I had mine replaced on my SS/TC under warranty and it appears its on its way out again(less than a year after it was replaced). This is also with stock springs etc..

GM has GM's stock holder's backs and not yours, unless you make them cover you. Never forget that they are not in business for your benefit.

I am having the same issue right now. Had pedders on my car last year, after 10k miles column went bad. put back to stock and took to dealer, they warrantied it no questions asked. 1 year later and maybe 20k miles, doing it again. Now they wont warranty it cuz Im out of warranty. Called GM and they are making me take the car to the dealer for an inspection, if it is in fact the same problem they will replace it, if not then I have to pay for the inspection and for them to fix it....

Kind of bs to me, but I understand they arent going to just replace it for me just cuz I have been a loyal customer for the past 9 years.

It's not the springs. It's the crappy brush power steering motors they use. Call the GM Customer Service hotline (800-222-1020) and tell them what's going on. With Pedders your steering rack angle doesn't get changed nearly as drastically as the guys slammed on coilovers.

i'm dropped on coilovers, with ottp rack spacers, and moog end links and i havent had a steering column issue yet (knock on wood). i'd say make sure the noise isn't related to your end links and then invest like 30 bucks on rack spacers.

hope you get it all resolved first thou

Rack spacers are in place so angle isn't changed much at all... they just don't want to cover their faulty crap parts and want to blame it on me. Who is the new guy for CustService? Is he is as cool as Sarah was?

Mine makes a funny noise while rolling down the road. It almost sounds like a loose part somewhere in the drivetrain, but I can't exactly pin point where it is. I can feel it slightly as I hold the steering wheel, but I was thinking it could be sway bar end links. Exactly which part of the steering column is breaking? I will check this also when I put it up on the rack to pin point that noise I'm hearing.

It's the column itself, those are exact symptoms that get resolved by replacing the column.

Alright then. It doesn't ease my stress that my car is also lowered on Pedders. If it turns out to be the steering column, I may also be making a trip to the dealership to see what they can do for me.

I've been on Pedders for +50,000mi, also using rack spacers. The only thing that the rack spacers fix though is bump steer.

I doubt GM will help. It sounds like they would blame my painted calipers for the engine blowing (if it ever did)

Are you guys talking about the u joint on the steering column? i think its called an intermediate shaft? mine is bad on my car. sounds like **** whenever i turn in a parking lot or over bumps at a slow speed. I think its causing a little vibration I have when driving also. i dont know why it went out lol.
