Stupid ABS light.

I have an 06 cobalt SSSC with 60k...

Two days ago, my ABS light came on. I was pretty sad, but i had to work and was right by where I work so I just parked the car and worked. After work, I got back out to my car, started it, and the light was gone. I drove it home and the light stayed off. The next day, I started the car, no light, then while driving, the light came on. I slammed on the brakes to test this(I was on snowy roads) and the car acted like it still had abs.. Confused, I shut my car off while I was stopped, and restarted for the light to be gone... So now today, I started the car and this time the light was on! Only this time, the ABS worked sometimes when I slipped. So I took it through the car wash, and the light went off.. Does anybody know what the hell is going on? I don't want to pay the 100 dollars for the car to get scanned....
Thoughts?

most likely the hub bearing. The wheel speed sensors are internal to it. You need to get it scanned to see which side is acting up. A good scanner can do a datalog and show the mph of each individual wheel and which one it is
