06SS ALL DAY

My girlfriend has a 06 cobalt like me but its the 2.4. she arms the system ALL the time after she gets outta the vehicle. Last night someone smashed the window and stole her head unit. how come the alarm didnt sound? i mean i know they didnt open the door because it was still locked but the window was smashed i guess they hopped in the car without opening the door. can someone explain why the alarm didnt go off with the window being smashed? or will it only sound if the door/hood/trunk is opened?

my stock alarm only went off if you opened the door with something other than the button remote, after locking it with the button remote.

after they broke the window the prob jumped through it so they didn't set the alarm off. the alarm will only go off if the door is open or the trunk. hitting the car or smashing a window will not set the alarm off.

thats not true some alarms have indoor sensor that if moved slightly by trying to removed a head unit it would activate the alarm

I am so sorry to hear that your girlfriend's car was broken into, 06SS_ALL_DAY. I checked the 2006 manual and see that the theft-deterrent alarm, when armed, is set off when any of the doors or trunk are opened without the remote keyless entry key fob (p. 2-15).

Again, I'm sorry about the situation! Hope that everything is able to be resolved for you!

I have yet to hear my alarm go off. I have armed it and tried opening it by the handles, and the nothing. Not even sure if the thing even works! Lol

you have to lock it with the key fob, then if you open the door with just the key it will go off.

and yes some cars have other sensors, cobalt don't though.

if you lock with the fob and unlock with the key, or reach in through the window and unlock the door, the alrm will go off. its just a Anti-theft system, not really an alarm

anyone ever try to start the car without unlockin it (through the window?)

Be happy the alarm even works at all. I work at a body shop. Just at my location. 1 Chrysler vehicle per week comes in with a rear window smashed and the 3 thousand dollar factory radio stolen.

It's been like this for the past 6 weeks.

Not that its really worth 3000 dollars, just thats how much it costs if you buy it from the dealership.
Kinda like the IC Pumps for us, 120 bux or so from ZZP, 550 bux from the dealership.
