Sunroof stopped working all together
Hello All,
So i have a 2007 Cobalt SS/SC with 80k on it. I used my sunroof fine on Friday and hasnt had a single problem before that. On Sunday morning I went to open the sunroof and NOTHING.
1. I checked the fuse - Perfect
2. i pulled down the switch and test the connector on the cable that goes to the switch which has 5 lines. black lead of the volt meter on the far left line and red lead on the far right line. PERFECT 12 volts. I then started moving the red lead over line by line until POP, fuse blew. Replace the fuse to continue testing.
3. Today i picked up a new sunroof switch and with a smile on my face i pushed the button NOTHING.
So now what.... I see alot of reviews around the frames going bad - Cant be that, my sunroof never got stuck or struggled a single time and again worked on friday. maybe the motor, but i would think i would have had some kind of notice in the past like slow performance or overheating and not closing.
The motor is $200 and is the next thing i would replace but i want to check with all of you before i do it. Has anyone else had the same problem.. no clicks, no noise, didnt get stuck.. I am going to pull down the headliner this week and try to test the lead that actually connects to the motor..

Does anyone have a diagram of the 5 wire connection and how it runs to the motor.. I want to test to ends by the motor and check voltage while using the switch to see if power is getting there. 1 must be battery to the switch and another ground to the switch.. That means 3 wires then go to motor and would all be power i would guess since the motor uses body ground. so im guessing 1 is open one is close and 1 is tilt. But which ones?

that was my first though. Just happened so sudden and want to make sure that the motor itself is getting power. Maybe a wire came loose from the switch to motor.. I see there is an actuator too.
I just found an ACdelco motor online for $95.. might order that.

So as I was getting in the car after work I reached up on the roof right between the windshield and sunroof and banged the crap outta it. I got in and started the car and pushed the sunroof button back... IT WORKED... The whole ride home... 30min I played with it opening and closing it and it worked fine.. I am noticing a little jitter only while opening but not closing. I cleaned all the gaskets, rails and slides and regreased them. Still jittering but working.
