Supercharger Coupler
Hey guys, I searched this in the how to forums but came up with nothing, so I was wondering if any of you could help me. I recently purchased a 2005 cobalt ss/sc and I think the coupler for the supercharger might be due for replacement because I'm hearing the infamous marbles in a can noise between 2 and 3 thousand RPM. How do I replace the coupler?

take off supercharger. drain supercharger oil. remove bolts on supercharger. take out coupler. put in new coupler. rtv the edges. put back together. put new supercharger oil to spec. put supercharger back on. voila

x2. Just an fyi you don't need very much rtv or gasket maker or whatever you use. The case and snout fit so snugly together that even with a tiny little bead you will have excess squeeze out when tightening the bolts so don't use a ton or you will be cleaning up a mess.

Thanks a lot bankerbalt, and good tips guys, I think this is something I'm going to have to do sooner than later right? Is it safe to drive on a bad coupler for an extended period of time? By the way is this something I can get from the dealer? And what are the torque specs for the supercharger bolts?

Should be ok to drive unless it gets excessively noisy. Not sure if you can get from the dealer. You should buy one off ZZP or better yet since you are in michigan, if not very far away just drive there. Their website is zzperformance.com in case you don't know. Buy theirs and not the OEM. As for torque specs, I have no idea, honestly I just tightened them down til they felt really snug and haven't had any problems.

Oh okay then I'll just tighten it down as much as I can then. How do I get the belt off and back on though? Is there a tensioner I have to loosen? Btw when I change the supercharger's oil, should I pour in the entire bottle of zzp supercharger oil?

I used a small syringe for putting the supercharger oil back in because there is a bolt on the supercharger to refill it

You guys are awesome, I swear from now on I'm asking you guys instead of my mechanic who seems to not know a thing about superchargers. So one bottle of zzp supercharger oil will be enough for the supercharger then?

Nobody really seems to know honestly how much oil to use. Some say 3.4, some say 6, some say 8 and no one really ever seems to have problems no matter how much oil they use. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this comment but that's just what it seems like to me from past arguments is that there isn't really a sure answer to that question.
