Tighten axle nut didnt fix clicking

i didn't unscrew the axle nut. just took a torque wrench to the 30mm nuts at 155 ft lbs, and nothing budged on either side. should I unscrew the nut first, and re torque? could it possibly be another issue?

when going in reverse from parked, or dowshifting at slow speeds it makes a clicking noise. after going in reverse and hearing the clicking noise, when going foward, the clicking noise occurs again. I thought this was the infamous problem with the axle nuts.

thanks!

It's clicking because it's bad.

Are you sure it's the CVs? What about CA bushings, specifically the rear?

If the clicking is not constant it might not be the bearing. If its just when the load of the car shifts it could be the Control arm bushings.

The CABS are what I was thinking until i read a bunch of posts that led to the axle nut coming loose. its definitely not a wheel bearing or cv joint. the noise is not constant, only when the weight shifts. The noise is coming from the front.

if it was a cv joint or bearing, the noise would be constant.

If it boils down to be the CABS, do I need to replace the entire control arm, or can the bushings be removed from the control arm in order to install stock bushings? If i go aftermarket, the spherical cabs seem to be the way to go... too many problems with the polys.

Multiple click click click click click? Or just one clunk when reversing and the another clunk when going forward again? Could be sway bar endlinks

I have this same issues and it seems to be on the passenger side. The dealership said that it's the strut mounts and bearing which I say is bullshit. They won't cover it because they said i have lowering springs in. I had this same issue withmy 06 Ss/sc and I upgraded the axles to driveshaft shop and it went away.

I'm pretty sure you should be able to replace just the bushing themselves

I'd be willing to bet that a PO has installed poly cabs on your car.

If it does turn out to be them, get OTTP.

mine does it on the passenger side... '10 SS/TC with 21k miles on it... usually it happens when backing up a hill and i'm about 3-5ft from where i started, i just assumed it was an axle with a blown cage in the CV joint. i hear something banging around in the front when it hit bumps which i assume is Swaybar endlinks rattling... i've been told that when i get in and out of the gas that my front wheels shift foward and back as well...

Smartass mode: Why do you have an axle nut on your LSJ? That's a strange mod for some one to do. Why not put your axel nut where it belongs on your "Drivetrain Transmission, LSD, Clutch, Driveline, Axles..." ect...

Just bein a smartass cause ya posted in the wrong forum.
But id put my money on a CV Axel though.

I bet if you DO post in the Drive train Transmission, LSD, Clutch, Driveline, Axles... forum, youll get people there reading your post who probably know alot more about it then people who post in the LSJ forum section, though some of the same people will post in both.

Well I am one with new OTTP axles in my vehicle that STILL hears a lone click once in a while with this weight shifting...I just replaced my end links and ill be replacing the bushings real soon. I hope this is the answer! If it isn't, I will be wanting a new set of axles per warranty...they are barely 4 months old!

Right now I clunk until I put in my sway bar bushings and randomly there is a click from the drivers axle, whether it be at slow speeds or when im cruising at 60 and downshift. No turning while it happens, and its a lone click.

just an update on this. you have to actually remove hub off the axle, clean it off, re-grease it, and reinstall. then the clicking is gone until you have to do it again.

So it is my hub/axle spline that is making that noise? Not a bad axle?

I tried a hard acceleration today and heard two pops through 2nd gear. They are so random, never through a turn or anything.
