I don't think you necessarily have to take it off to take the timing cover off. But it's much easier if you do.

you don't "need" to take the mount off to take the timing cover off.....but if you want the mount off, put a jack with a piece of wood or something under the oil pan to support the engine....then take the 3 bolts that hold the mount to the bracet, and the two nuts that hold the mount to the frame. Then there are 3 bolts that hold the bracket to the engine block.

What are you trying to do?

It's just the look of cheap oil thats all. Years and years of heating and cooling cycles causes cheap oil to "stain" almost. A sign of an unhealthy motor would be sludging and black deposits. That would mean the oil was consistently being ran hot and beyond its ability to properly lubricate parts.

Lol I think the main focus is trying to help the gentlemen out with what he needs to fix, not stains.

its 5 bolts to take the mount off, support the motor. its lots easier to reach the top 4-5 bolts for the cover with the mount off.

imo take it off.

I recommend rotella T6 5w40, i use it in every car I own and my brothers suzuki GSXR750. It's probably one of the most versatile heavy duty full synthetics ive ever used in my entire life, and its sooooo cheap. Roughly 21.50 @ walmart for a gallon. Daily driver, to full race applications, even my buddys LS1 GTO benefited from it. lol

You do not need to remove the mount to remove the timing cover. I left it intact everytime I removed the timing cover.

It's not hard with it left on.

It's just a sign the dealership or who ever did your oil used the incorrect type.

Start up on 5w-30 Mobil 1 full synthetic (factory fill), and it should clean up in there.
