transaxle differential exploded!!
Anyone else have this problem? I have an 07 cobalt ss/sc with gm stage 2pully kit and nothing else yet. I was driving home from my friends house going up a hill and i had momentum about 30 mph and i was kinda dodging trafic up the hill so i got on the gas then all of a sudden there was a loud POP under the car and the car jerked to the right. so i pulled over and took a look under the car and my heart droped there was a large hole neer the center line of the car just above where the axles meet.... I found literally 6 1sq in. pieces of alluminum under my car in a massive oil spill coming from my car so i get to the dealer and they say a rep from Gm is coming to the dealer to verify if its a warranty or not i got my car with 4 miles now at 21k and hoping it all goes well looking for any feedback on it plzz help

99% of the time diff pins blow out from doing burnouts and spinning 1 tire. i see a lot of diff failures at work (im a trans tech and diff builder) and every time a pin is blown out the vehicle shows signs of abuse. things like rubber in the fender well, rubber on the side of the car or rims, water spray along the body, and scratch markes in the tread of the tire are dead give aways of spinng the tires. if gm spotsa any of the key things on your car, they can deny you warrnety

So the worst case senario is that i would need to buy a replacement transaxle. Would i be able to put the 09 ss/tc transaxle in its place? My original had an open diff i would be looking at the lsd.

spinning the tires or rocking the car in the snow is the worst thing and that causes diff failure. we have had a huge snowfall in my area and since it started ive been fixing nothing but blown up diffs.
the tc tranny has some diferentces and i dont think would bolt right in, however you can get an lsd in the ss/sc tranny.

with an open differential, when one tire spins and the other is stopped the tire thats spinning actualy spins at 2x the normal speed. what happens is the spider gears are spinning so fast that it cant get lubrication between the diff pin and spider gears, and the gears begin to weld themselves to the pin because of exesse heat. when that happens, something has to give. there is a little rollpin to hold the diff pin in place, with the spiders now welding themselves to the diff pin, this roll pin shears off and the diff pin now spins in the diff carrier and is loose. it only takes time to work its way out of the carrier and hit the case and blow a hole in it, destroying the transmission.
this is just because the design of an open diff, it will happen in any vehicle, fwd or rwd.

Or I was asking a genuine question because I didn't understand why, and you decided to be a tool.
Gotcha, that makes sense. Kinda glad I went through the hassle of putting an LSD tranny in my car now.

! Come on don't tell me that guys. my dealer outsourced the transaxle to some transmission place for inspection i guess that means they didn't see any evidence of aggressive driving on my car but i hope HOPE u was miss informed..

http://www.turbosystem.com/ProjectVe...ire%20heat.htm thats the link to the hahn sunfire. its clearly an 02+ wich had the eco, it clearly has the ecotec under the hood, and if you watch the videos you can tell its a stick (bring up the rpm and drop the clutch in the burnout).
