Transmission Whine
Ok, I noticed this is getting louder the more I drive my car. But, my transmission what I am assuming is whining really loud when I am coasting or decelerating. And yes I know the supercharger whines under acceleration. Anyone else have this issue??? I haven't checked the fluid level to see if that is it. But my car only has 1229 miles on it. On my 4th week of owning it. I like the little thing but has tons of issues.

Well when you accelerate you create boost and the supercharger whines. We are talking about coasting and de-accelerating. I don't think you read everything right. "Not trying to be a dick"

I know that is what you were talking about, I was asking how to tell the difference.

well mine 07(SS/SC) was leaking a little out of the inner trans axle seal (what the said) and the cyncro was bad in 2nd and they needed special tools to fix it,so they just ordered me a new tranny lol. i used to work there by the way so its no biggie but now i got a enterprise 2.2 cobalt and im sry to all that have one but when you go from the best to the bone stock of stock the only thing that get a laugh is pulling the E-brake up at 45-50 and watching the ass end sit and rear tire smoke go poof lol.
my* sry

My tranny always whines when it's cooler outside and the car hasn't warmed up yet. But after driving like 5 min. it goes away.
Actually I think every manual tranny car I've had has done that.

My '07 G5 2.2 with Getrag F23 5-speed transmission (not the same tranny as you SS/SC guys) also whines on coasting or deceleration. It didn't do it when the car was brand new, but the whining appeared at about 1000 miles. It has gotten a little worse since then, and I now have a little over 5000 miles on it. I hear it when coasting from 45mph down to a stop. The car also whines when letting off the gas to coast at 70-75 mph, which appeared at about 3000 miles. It doesn't matter what gear the car is in, and it also does it when the car is in neutral coasting to a stop. Applying a very small amount of gas to unload the gears makes the whine instantly stop. It sounds to me like excessive backlash in the differential, but Getrags (at least those that are in BMWs) are also well known to be fairly noisy transmissions.
I actually took the car to the dealer for this at about 2800 miles. The service manager rode in the car with me and acknowledged that the noise was there and agreed with me that it sounded like gear noise. They checked the TSBs for any mention of gear noise and came up empty. They recommended that I drive the car for a month or so and if it gets worse or still bothers me to bring it back for a probable transmission replacement.
I've been debating whether or not to take them up on the tranny replacement, but now that I see that I'm not the only one with a whining transmission, I may not. I would just hate to have my transmission with 5000 miles on it replaced with a rebuilt unit that would end up making the same noise.
