ugh choppy shifting!!

I dont know how these things normally shift but its not a smooth glide through the gears its kinda choppy feeling if you know what I mean?

like I cant slide it from 1-2 smoothly... its like 1...sticks in the middle then....2

do my shifter cables need adjusting? how would I do that?

also, how come unless I'm at 10km/hr it WILL NOT shift into second, its like theres a wall there, unless I rev or slow to 10km/hr it wont go into that gear.. is that the synchro mesh locking it out because its not safe? The first 2 gears are the worst for this... shifting from 1-2 is never smooth but to 3rd is ok and to 3-4-5 are all ok but 1-2 are the worst...

ok well thers no Grinding sounds, whining sounds or any of that, it runs fine but its just hard to shift gears and upon further research the general concensus for this is that the linkage is bad/needs adjusting... how do I do that?

this is the first manual trans car I've owned btw and little things like this are bugging me...

I've noticed my car does the same thing, shifting from 1 - 2 seems choppy most of the time but all other gears are smooth
