Voltage Issue ?????

Been a while since i've driven the balt and when i went to drive it now that its warm it wants to start intermittently.

BATTERY TESTS GOOD.

STARTER TESTS GOOD.

Removed starter and cleaned connections. Cleaned ground in trunk. Cleaned fuse box jump post.

Hooray i fixed my intermittent start. Now I flip my interceptor over to read battery voltage and of course its seeing 11.9.

Battery voltage when running is too low to perform an alternator test. So I grab a multimeter and find:

14.7 on top of ALT

11.4 at battery.

What am I missing here? Could me removing the starter have interfered with my alternator?
Why wouldnt the voltage make it back to the battery If I have in under the hood. I have double checked my work but I cant figure this out.

Thanks guys and gals for your input

There is a fusible link between the starter and alternator. I'm not sure what else it could be.

I tested it with a "load tester" at the parts store I work at. As well as with the store's tester. Results were "Good" the other day and "Good needs charge" today since its no longer charging.

Hmmm ok ill have to try and find this fusible link didnt know there was one

Thanks

Thumbs up

Thanks Grave you were right. Problem solved.

Took the wire off that goes from the starter to alternator and cleaned both eyelets and re installed. Showing 14.2 now!

I had re installed this wire when I installed the starter but It still had some green corrosion on it. I cleaned the starter stud and nuts but not the wires connecting

I hope this can help anyone else having charging issues. A good connection is a must. And ALL connections should be double checked before money is spent on a new alternator lol

Good to hear. You could try putting some dielectric grease on the terminals. It should help prevent more corrosion from forming since they're clean now.

Just did! Used some small packets of battery grease. been cleaning it up all night. SO many electrical problems with this car. LED brake light issue. Radio problems and of course. . .the power steering gauges problem. and still slow. Hopefully just mine lol

I'm at 120k and have more problems than my friend at 212k lmao

Thanks again.
