Wheelbearing-like noise

Well. Here's the story.

So I'm driving along and begin to hear what sounds like tire noise, a little louder each day, to the point where it sounded like I was driving on a monster truck tire. When I took sharp lefts and took pressure off the rear right wheel, the sound would stop, but when I took a sharp right and all the weight of the car went to the driver's side wheels it got twice as loud. I figured it was a bearing. Replaced it Sunday. The sound has since been cut in half, so I have no doubt it was bad.

But, that's just it, the sound was cut in half, it's not gone, and now it sounds like it's emanating from a different area. More towards the front, and sometimes from the passenger's side. Same thing when I make turns. I think part of it may be tires that haven't been rotated and may be off balance from knocking snow and ice out from inside them, I may have knocked some weights off. So, I'm getting that done this afternoon...

Do you guys think it could be ANOTHER bad bearing? Could I have had too, I mean I know it's possible, but what else could it be? Thanks.

its not the wheel weights; that would cause vibrating.

are you sure your brakes are ok?

transmission, though on the drivers side, also makes some grinding/bearing like noises

Very well could be my brakes...when I hit em hard they sound sort of like "WHA TA TA TA TA TA TA!" lol...

And I couldn't get the caliper off the rotor when I was changing the bearing... So, brakes then? Ha. Hope its not the tranny, everything shifts and feels fine, and its the noise is only audible at over 40mph, and worse when turning...so.

CV's.... get em checked.

I say this because if you still have the stock motor/tran mounts then your hopping a lot on take off and it'll kill your CV joints.

Other side wheel bearing? I replaced them all at once on mine. Although that was also to complete a 5 lug swap.

Idk about the CV being shot. My Sentra had a bad CV and it only made that noise when I was turning.

And you thought this was normal and not a potential issue?

No no no, I knew the brakes were also an issue, just never heard brakes rubbing like a wheel bearing before, if that's even the problem.

Regardless, the only other thing I have noticed is what I feel underneath my feet as a drive. It vibrates, but at like, 5 second intervals. So it'll vibrate...stop...vibrate...stop. It's a light vibration, but definitely noticeable. Still trying to determine if its brakes or another bearing. Hope this helps someone help me. lol. I have the next week off of work, so I have time to get this fixed.

Went threw same situation but mine was a combination of tires just being worn out, replaced both wheel bearings, and that "wha tatatata" sound you hear is probably your rotors being worn, and its throwing your steering column around. You will feel it to, like you said it stops, vibrates, stops, vibrates. New rotors, and pads I'd say your good, and rotate them tires. See if that works. GL.

Sorry re-read this but bad rotors as in warped just to sum it up. Might be to the point of replacing.

Well, I had it looked at this week by the local mechanic. Good dude, checked it out for free for me. Turns out it is a bad wheel bearing. It's the second bad bearing this month. Guess I'm just unlucky. But, getting it on tonight, and if I have any more problems I'm gonna drop some elbows and throw some fists...hahah.
