wow sound from engine

well i started up my ss just a few mins ago and its has the timing chain knock and when the thottle is let off it sounds like a whole bunch of metal is hittin the top of the vavle cover...does my chain and tensioner have to be replaced? or is it a blown engine... the sound is on the passenger side of the car...and no metal flakes in the oil

replace your chain and tensioner and guides...or you will need a new valve train soon too

valvetrain= expensive, timing chain+tensioners+guides=less expensive

if you wait till it goes alltogether=even more expensive

i dont know about towed, if its driveable you should be ok, let it warm up and take it easy on your way to a mechanic, wheather thats your dealership or not is your choice,but if your mostly stock you might consider trying to get it warranty'd. either way you should get it looked at as soon as possible if it sounds that bad...i know my car has a weird lifter tick but it hasnt gotten any louder or changed at all so i listen to it when i start it and pay attention to it in case it does.you shoul;d do the same after you get the problem resolved.
i would take it in and tell the dealership about what is happening and see what they say, it might be a simple adjustment that they have a service bulletin about. but there is also the chance that it is serious . if you go upgraded top end it gets expensive so if your not going to do any serious modifying its not really worth it imho. good luck keep us posted

oh and dont let the dealership tell you that because you have a cold air intake and a exhaust that your warrany is void...you only void your warranty if what you have done IS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM!!

Putting a tensioner in is a 20 minute job.. Replacing the chain is full afternoon... your chain is probably fine if you've not gone very far with it rattling.. I'd try changing the tensioner only
