oh and my rear pads are gone and grinding my rear rotors. only had the car for a year. front brakes and rotors are perfect. obviously there's a problem somewhere with the car and not with our driving.
This is exactly what's happening to me. My front rotors & pads are 100% fine, the rear ones were grinding (took it in ASAP) and they said they have to replace everything. They said though that it's under warrentee, as is the rental I now have to get for a week. Hopefully this is the case and I wont get screwed with a bill next week.

The rotors have been on backorder for damned near half a year now which makes me wonder if GM is holding off on placing additional orders and are looking into the large number of them that have grooved heavily. Either way they should probably get their **** together because customers can't be going months without their vehicle because GM has no replacement parts available, that's completely unacceptable.

I think it's the rear calipers that are the issue.

Yeah this seems to be a major issue with the 08/09 ss/tc there's also a tread to file a complant to get them recalled in the lnf forum, I've also been informed r1concepts has replacement rotors for the rear.I'm going to order a pair next week & hopefully this fixes this problem that noise is annoying I agree but will let u kno f the same problem occurs or it fixes anything

I don't know if there is a recall or not but the rear rotors on my 2008 SS were very badly worn at 11000 kms (about 6000 miles). GM replaced them under warranty but I'm approaching 22000 kms and they are worn again. The technician said the pads were very hard and causing the extreme wear on the rotors.

Take it back in. They need to see there are tons of issues with these, and maybe they will address the problems.

Or, go aftermarket. If they replace the rotors under warranty, take the stock pads out, and get some high quality ones like Hawk.

They can replace the rotors all day; if they don't service the brakes you'll just keep on replacing them.
