Cobalt RECALL (soon to be)

Washington -- Federal regulators have opened an investigation into complaints that power steering systems in the Chevrolet Cobalt can fail.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says there are 1,132 complaints about the Cobalt's electric power steering, including reports of eleven accidents and one injury.

The review covers about 905,000 Cobalts in the model years from 2005 to 2009.

A majority of the complaints have come in the past six months. Some drivers said they couldn't stay in their traffic lane when steering became difficult

From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20100202/...#ixzz0eQdtO67r

Is the EPS the same between LS/LT/Sport/SSSC/SSTC models?

wonderful news right there..i just got a letter from gm saying that some fot he 2006 model cobalt vehicles equipped with the 2.0l supercharged engine, may have a condition where the malfunction indicator lamp illuminates, and or there is a lack of engine power. This may be caused by falilure of the catalytic converter.

I have experienced that. My cat is now gone so I guess that took care of it.

I know quite a few of the members on here have talked about theirs going out... Wonder if that means refunds for those who had to replace it out of pocket...

"Some drivers said they couldn't stay in their traffic lane when steering became difficult"
^^now i had to drive my old cavy about 6 1/2 miles with absolutely no power steering to the mechanic shop cuz the one hose snapped and i couldnt get to it myself. pain the ass but it wasnt THAT difficult

well this is amazing news...in a more positive note, i guess i should look at it in the way as if my car is affected i basically get a new EPS system depending what they replace.

They just need to work out more. When my Monte Carlo would stall while moving I lost power steering but it wasn't to hard to steer and I'm a weakling.

yeah me too. This is my first standard and i blew the power steering fuse and drove it for 2 days w/o power steering. 1-2 shift was always at redline lmao

**** my Redline done that from time to time since the day I bought it. At speed she handles much better when the electric motor shuts off :-) People just need to get jobs requiring manual labor or hit the gym.
