Ya, heard about this.... but what I have read, the only "ss" models affected by this power steering problem is 08-09.... they have stated 05-09 cobalts.... but judging by what they are saying,... not all of the cobbies are affected?? does that mean my 05 ss supercharged, is not in the group??? time will tell i guess.?

Yeha sometimes my power steering locks up. Mostly when I start the car in the morning to let it warm up, then I get in, and try to turn the wheel and it's extremely hard to turn. But after playing with it for a second, it loosens up.

I had something similar happen when changing my old Neon from automatic to standard. To get the new pedal assembly in, we had to unhook the steering wheel from the column, where it links in the drivers foot well. Needless to say, once it was unhooked, my buddy decided it would be funny to spin the wheel freely since it wasn't hooked up to anything. Once we got everything back together, I realized the wheel wasn't spinning freely, because when he free spun the wheel when it wasn't hooked up to the rack, he overwound the clockspring and
snapped it, causing the horn to stop functioning.
Hopefully that's not what it is, could just be a fuse or a short in the system somewhere. Just throwing out ideas for things to look for.

wonderful news right there..i just got a letter from gm saying that some fot he 2006 model cobalt vehicles equipped with the 2.0l supercharged engine, may have a condition where the malfunction indicator lamp illuminates, and or there is a lack of engine power. This may be caused by falilure of the catalytic converter.

This has happened to me quite frequently. A quick restart of the car fixes it, but doesn't help when you're in Dahlonega on curvy mountain roads. I heard they have a recall out currently on it. Anyone have a link?

Washington -- Federal regulators have opened an investigation into complaints that power steering systems in the Chevrolet Cobalt can fail.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says there are 1,132 complaints about the Cobalt's electric power steering, including reports of eleven accidents and one injury.
The review covers about 905,000 Cobalts in the model years from 2005 to 2009.
A majority of the complaints have come in the past six months. Some drivers said they couldn't stay in their traffic lane when steering became difficult

Is the EPS the same between LS/LT/Sport/SSSC/SSTC models?

It's so much nicer driving the old cars.. My Olds is straight old-school.. Carb, rear wheel drive.. None of this electronic bullshit.. Granted, there is more electronics and such on that car than something older, but I like that when you punch the gas, there's no ifs ands or buts about it.. It goes.. When you hit the brakes, you can lock them up.. When you turn the steering wheel, it turns.. I'm not a big fan of my car thinking for me..

whistling may be exhaust gases trying to escape between the downpipe and manifold
