power steering fail after recall.
i had my 06 power steering motor replaced 3 months ago. before the recall the steering never failed. the other day i was turning into a parking lot and the steering failed. pushed in the clutch and restarted the car and all was good. called the dealership and they looked at it today. first question they asked me after looking at it was if i have ever needed to jump the car. i told them no, i have never had it jumped. he asked that because the tech said that i had 3 codes for low battery voltage. the battery is about 3 years old or so.
when i got i switched my interceptor gauge to battery voltage. here is what it showed...
driving - 14.5 volts
idle - 14.3 volts
sitting off with key on 1 minute - 12.4 volts
sitting for 5 minutes - 12.2 volts
does this sound like a bad battery? i know i can have autozone or anyone test it but i dont have time for it right now. i can do that this weekend.
thoughts??

ok well i took my car to autozone to have the battery tested. it failed. got a new battery, installed it and the steering went out 9 times today! everytime it went out the voltage was at 14.4-14.6. this is really pissing me off.....

I have long speculated that there is an issue with the control module under the steering column and not the actual steering motor itself. Is your power steering failing while the car is moving, or is it when you go to turn in a stopped position? I had to raise the idle on my car to 750 to give the electric steering motor sufficient charging current to actually allow the motor to work properly. A weak alternator can aggravate the problem at idle i know that much. I also posted a link in another thread about a canbus problem with an oxidized connector causing an intermittent connection at the power steering module which caused a power steering warning to display on the DIC. He fixed the problem by cleaning the inside of the terminals on both sides with deoxit 100 terminal cleaner.

I don't know the codes. Dealership didn't remember them when I asked. All they said was that it was 3 codes relating to a low battery. I always check my interceptor and never have any codes on there. As far as I know the interceptor only reads engine codes not body or steering codes. I could be wrong.

it took the dealership 7 hours to look at it. after all that time they never found anything specific that was wrong with it. they ordered a new power steering motor to see if that will fix it. they think they might have gotten a bad one for the recall. they said that if it isnt the motor that it might be the column itself. the part will be here in 2-3 days.

Yeah I'm going to pay attention to this. I am having failures too and I just had the power steering motor replaced last month. I have a video of what it does and I'll post it later but the gauges are flat, the power steering doesn't come on, and it takes a while. Today I almost got all the way to the train station before the power steering motor kicked on - it was dead from when I turned the car on and yes I went on the highway too. It's a total pain in the ass! I'm going to call the dealer back too!
