Power Steering failed after warranty work
I had my car taken in for the power steering recall about 6-8 weeks ago. They fixed it for free which was cool, but now my car has had the same symptoms of the recall. "power steering" message from the DIC and Loss of power steering.
Anyone have that happen after the recall work has been performed? IF so should i take it in or will they charge me since it would be the second time.

Do you guys know what they do when they replace the motor? Do they remove the whole steering column, or just the motor itself? I ask, because my interceptor is mounted on my steering column housing, and I would really hate to have to remove it for the recall.

Well, Called them today. Lady on the phone claims that they will look at it monday and if they find something that is related to the work they did I would not have to pay.
Dealers, never a good time really. I wonder what the odds of them "finding" something that they didnt work on and making me pay $ for that.

It would be extremely hard for the dealership to f-up the repair. Two screws and the knee bolster comes out. Then two bolts and the motor comes out. The only way they could mess this up is to forget to plug the motor in, pinched the wires during install, or didnt torque the bolts correctly. There are some checks they are supposed to do to the new motor before installing. Most likely its a defective part or you have another issue. If they did mess it up i would not take it back to them ever again, because its about the simplest repair on the vehicle. Check your steering fuse and make sure its not blown. I did the recall on my car and had absolutly no issues. Im doing another one on my friends balt tonight, ill post if i have any issue with it.

The issue comes and goes. The power steering light comes on and is off the DIC within 5 seconds. Then all is back to normal.
And when i went to the dealer and had the issue fixed per the recall the first time, there was no talk about not being able to reproduce the issue. The light was off! Same exact situation.
Oh well needless to say i will not be going back to that dealership again ever for anything.

There are four or five different power steering motors you could have got. Some require aditional procedures before installing. Some are ready out of the box. Maybe the tech didnt do the extra procedures. It involves adding lock tight to the motor.

My '05 Cobalt base coupe also had no steering problem until I took it in for the recall in June. After it started having problems I went back and had them replace the electric motor again. That made it worse. I then left it with them for three LONG days and they found nothing, it wouldn't act up for them. Now when it's acting up I just continue to drive it with no assist. Since another thread has a new 2010 Cobalt failing, GM better be working like mad to find a solution.

I'm going this afternoon.
I hope the new motor doesnt crap out like it has for some of you guys.
It really makes no sense to install a new power steering motor that has the same potential issues as the original.
