I dont know if anyone could help me here but I need the replace the electronic motor also. My VIN correspond to 2007 models and applies to the recall but I can't go a dealer cuz I'm in South America, Bolivia.

@Staged07SS. Would you ask for me to the gm representative if they could send me the electric power steering wheel motor to Bolivia? The car came out from a GM dealer, here is the VIN: 1G1AP14P777130204

I would appreciated a lot, man.

Thanks

Hey man I asked, but you need to have the dealership install the motor since its a recall item.

To everyone else ....

I had my new power steering motor installed this afternoon. It took them about 15 mins, and everything seems to be ok so far. I will keep everyone posted if something happens.

At my work we sold a 2006 Pontiac Pursuit GT sedan and had the recall done, and a similar situation to that of the OP's has presented itself. The recall was done back in August, and now the power steering has gone out again. We brought it to the dealer for the customer and they diagnosed it as a blown fuse, so they replaced it and we picked it up and after 20min of driving it went out again. I'm guessing its another blown fuse, so the motor is probably defective, right?

Is this a common issue even with the recall-motors?

Seems like alot of inconsistency, that could be a blown fuse. I really wish I could get to the bottom of this. I will say that my light hasnt come on again in a few months but i expect it to come on again haha!

My 2005 Cobalt had never had a power steering related problem prior to the recall performed in August 2010, I now have a occasional no-assist problem when the car is started. Any owner having a problem after the recall was performed should contact the NHTSB and file a complaint. The original Campaign ID Number is 10V07300. The phone number is 888 327 4236, or online is www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/Index.xhtml. It appears GM knew the overheated motors were seldom the problem.

Mine never had a problem before or after the recall.

Go back to the dealer and tell them the recalled part seems to be having a problem. Since you waited 2 years to tell them its messed up they might wonder why it took so long.

I did the same recall for my 06 balt and the same problems started happening after the work. I took it to the dealership today to find out that I needed a new power steering column that costs 900 dollars. I had no problems with the power steering before and now that they replaced the motor i had problems. I'm glad im not the only one with this problem though.

I didn't wait two years. My wife's 2005 LS sedan has 22K miles on it. Never had a p/s problem before recall. In a 47 day period after the recall was performed, 2 additional p/s motors were replaced. An intermittent loss of p/s assist occurs when the car is first started in the garage, and while driving. When there is no assist, the automatic trans slams into reverse or drive, or, if moving the upshifts and downshifts slam at each gear change. When slowing down you have to manually down-shift the trans to keep the engine from stalling when coming to a stop, as the trans doesn't want to downshift on its own. When the p/s warning light illuminates, everything returns to normal. Repeated trips to 2 dealers have had the following suggestions: replace p/s column, replace power-train control module, replace p/s module, and replace body control module(which has been replaced twice, in a failed attempt of correct the instrument panel lighting problem). I asked if they replace parts and problem re-occurs, would they re-install old parts and refund money. Their response was "Absolutely NOT". After all this, a friend of my Father-in-law, who is a Delphi Electronics retiree, provided the solution. Replace the mass air flow sensor. I install an AC Delco 213-4222, and everything has been perfect since.

One thing I forgot to mention, the check engine light came on repeatedly, DTC's were U2100, and P0700

Yeah, don't let them touch it... Ask me how I know. I've been told now the only way I can get them to even look at is it has to be acting up while at the dealer. So uh, guess I'll AutoX at the dealer awhile so it flares up...

I also had this repair done for free when the recall was announced...in 2010 maybe? ...never had a problem until AFTER that. Pontiac (my car is a G5) is glad to refer me to dealerships for repair, but those dealerships require a $100 diagnostic fee up front. I guess that makes sense, but I doubt they'll "find" a problem resulting from previous recall work when they have the opportunity to collect $100 for no work.

The power steering failure only occurs when the car hasn't been driven for a while, and it most often occurs in the morning when the car has been sitting overnight. I back out, and the steering works. I try to turn the wheel and no power steering...just for a second. Nothing ever shows up on the display.

Well my lsj has 35k on it and I've never had any messages come up in the dic, check engine light or steering problems. I got a letter in the mail a few weeks back about taking it in for the recall, should I just wait and if I have problems take it in then?

Good to know, thanks! I bought my G5 as a salvage vehicle with 3000 miles on it. New, yet recently destroyed...I suppose anything is possible.

This!

Especially the fact it's when the car has been sitting for awhile.

As you can see from back in 2013, I was having trouble with my power steering going out in high-stress environments (track days, auto-x and while driving on Tail of the Dragon). It would also be weak/not working any time the car hadn't been driven for a day or so.

Replaced my alternator, and haven't had any problems.
