Still waiting.....
2 damn months ago dropped my car off for recall after having a very scary episode on the highway, the gave me a POS 2010 Malibu loaner, rotors are now rusted out to ****, they are telling me they won't fix damage incurred in the incident or the damage from sitting for 2 months. Anyone else dealing with these problems?

A few stops and no more rust, even brand new cars that sit for months will get some rust on the rotors
A month might be OK ... much more than that and all bets are off. Cars sitting for more than a few weeks should be at least started and moved a bit (even if you think they are unsafe to drive them on the open road). Cars sitting in a parking lot is one thing ... on grass is a whole different issue. This whole concept of parking a car for two months is not OK. The dealer should be taking better care of these customer owned cars.
Fact - this recall is not being handled effectively by GM or the dealers. They know it, we know it, there is nobody left on planet earth that does not know this. This are just too many cars and it involves parts that cannot be produced in a reasonable time frame. It looks to me that this is a situation that has no easy answer ... it's just too ... big.
Luckily for me, at least so far, my cars seem to be happy with just the key fob on the ring. They have never turned off and I really don't see how they could turn off. I even crashed an Ion and it was still running after the crash. So I'm not in a huge rush.
If my car was sitting at the dealer for more than a month, I would just go there and see what I could do to get someone to start it, move it around a bit and put it back in its spot.
Good luck

They have the one part revised so it doesn't turn off easy and you can't pull the key out while it's running. The problem is that most were replaced because something else in them was faulty and the key would lock in the running position. So there in lies the problem with possibly replacing them with one of the worse ones. I broke my key chain pulling on it to see how hard it was to turn off before it ended up turning off

There is another recall too....to change the steering motor but I don't think GM has the parts for it yet on a grand scale nor do I think anyone cares like the ignition switch.. Has anyone done it...?

Most dealerships around here are fixing the cars by year of make. My mom works at a gm dealership and she said that it takes time because gm randomly sends out the ignition kits. They are ordered per vin and they just come randomly. She said that yesterday she got kits ordered 2 weeks ago but she's also waiting on kits ordered back in April. It's retarded but honestly there is nothing you can do except maybe tell them not to do the recall and take your car home

The 09's didn't have the key issue unless it was replaced with a defective one anyways. OP just wanted a loaner to put miles on and it's kinda screwing him.
Like I said, the way this is being handled is not acceptable. I'm not sure what they could do, but parking people's cars and abandoning them for months on end - simply not acceptable. I can't help them, they can't help themselves ... it's just sad.

im not talking mine in till i know the parts are available, and i will wait while its fixed. I got my original replaced due to the key being stuck in the on position, and i have 0 issues with the one in there now, but will still comply with the recall.
She sits in the garage more than outside, so there was no way i was sitting it outside at a dealership for 2 months and letting the clearcoat bake off of it. Only time i let her sit very long is in the winter, when salt has been on the road. Feel bad for the op though, that sucks, especially if it is in nice shape.

Not true...I bought a 2010 from a dealer that had the issue. The key was stuck in the ignition and they hurried up the recall to fix it so they could sell me the car....I still had to wait a month.

I don't get why only 09's are left out of the steering motor recall though.

Late to the party, but ...
I partially followed 63 Nova SS's strategy - I waited to take it in until the dealer called telling me the parts had arrived, but left it with them.
Do to a phone # mix-up I did not get notified it was ready until Monday even though I had called to check on it around 4:15 and left the number with the live person that took my message , but in the overall scheme of things it did not kill me as I have another vehicle , and they sent the courtesy van out to pick me up from the house yesterday.
I now have 2 keys w/ only a round hole & 1 old slotted one - they are all keyed the same, and all work.
I believe my ignition was replaced once before, so it is a "re-recall" , and my power steering motor was replaced as well.
Which I swear changed the feel to slightly lighter than it was before (SS's got special motors from the factory - no telling if any attention was paid to that when it was replaced ) but it was so long ago now I am used to it.
My .02.
