2006 Cobalt Calendar

It’s time to make a CobaltSS.net Calendar for 2006

If you would like to see your car in this calendar send original high resolution pictures of your car to calendar@cobaltss.net

All pictures must be taken with a camera that has at least 3.0MP and sent in the original form. No resized or cropped pictures please.

Also, lighting is very important. Please take a moment to read there car picture taking tips before taking your pictures:
http://www.cobracountry.com/fototips/home.html

If we get a decent number of submissions, we will have the members vote to puck the 13 cars for the Calendar.

We need all submissions by August 27, 2005.

Think of some cool places to have in the background of your pictures.

Let me know if you have any questions

Submission Agreement:
By summiting you pictures to CobaltSS.net, you agree that:

I have a photo that I want to send. Are you going to credit the person in text or should I put my name on the image?

All Cobalt models are accepted. The background can help a lot.

We will credit each picture in the appropriate corners in the same font as chosen by the designer, so please send the original unmarked pictures.

Those are nice pictures but the sun creates really dark shadows on the sides of your car. Try taking some in the morning or in the eve if you can

Just for legal reasons, you should make a submission agreement since there is money involved then.

lol thanks Glad you liked it! I hope it can be used to promote the Cobalt.

Damn it...I gotta go back to that dealership I was at. I was waiting at a Honda place for my friend's Accord to get fixed and the only camera I had was on my cell phone. They had a sign that said "Honda/Acura Drop-Off and Pick-Up Only" so I got a pic of my SS parked there and made sure to get the big-ass bowtie in it. I'll have to go back and get another one.

Is the quality of this picture good or should i get a better one?

I like the background and the positioning of the car. The perspective however is kind of plain and you are WAY too far away. Always try to fill the frame with the subject and pay attention to composition.

Never center the subject, rather position it using the thirds rule. (SEE BELOW)

      http://www.palmettobayinc.com/PhotoT...ls/thirds.html

      Edit:

The picture in the post by JonelZ is a great example of the rule of thirds, and good composition.

Your advice was good, b ut that picture that Jonel posted is horrible. No offense, if it's yours.

First of the car is not correctly positioned according to the rule of thirds. It's not anywhere close to being centered at the lower left intersecting point. It's too close to the edge of the frame. Second there is a tree hanging into the left side of the photo distrating attention away from the car. The biggest distractions are the lamp pole on the left that is competing too much with the car, and the huge fountain behind it. The fountain pulls your eye off the egde of the image since it's cut off at the top. Also the curb and the metal railing that is visible further back in teh photo, both lead your eye out of the image and away from the car. Which should be the main point of interest. Also there are just too many objects in the background that are visually distracting for me. Sorry to be so picky, but that is not a good picture......

I added a grid of lines dividing the image into thirds horizontally and vertically.

I also added the pic that I won the Aleromod.com calendar contest with last year.

I still think the positioning is decent. The car is positioned well enough on the intersecting point for me to consider it on target, and the lamp post is also close enough. It would be rare to frame it geometrically perfect. The position of the lamp and the car balance the image well.

I never said it was perfect but I see it to demonstrate good composition.

I disagree about the curb and rail leading you away. It is a line that leads into the car, and the fountain I find to be a good addition to the composition. If you removed it you would just have a parking lot which really bares no interest to the eye.

Now as far as image quality goes: It's lacking, especially with color but that's more to do with the camera used.

You seem to be more of a minimalist, which I like as well, but I don't think minimalism was the style intended with his picture.

      You're right, it's a snapshot at best.......

And this is going to be a "car" calendar, not a "lampost" or "fountain" calendar.

Think of it in terms of someone taking a picture of their kids at Disneyworld. They'd probabably take a nice picture of them with Mickey etc and maybe the Castle in the backround. But you wouldn't want that as their school picture for the yearbook.

I guess I tend to think a car calendar picture as a portrait of your car.
To me the picture that Jonel posted is just like my example of taking a pic of the kids at Disneyworld.

I'm just trying to help everyone that isn't into photography take better pics of their car.

And I guess Chevy must be into the minimalist car photography movement as well.

      http://www.chevrolet.com/cars/

      Here's a good link on kodak's website. I guess they're minimalists too.....
      http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQueri...q-locale=en_US
They've got a lot of other good general photography tips there as well.

Here's a shot of my Cobalt. I probably won't submit this one. I have some new places to photograph it that I want to try out.

Sounds like you two are rally into photography, but let’s not let this be an argument thread.
Do your best to take good pics. Some will be a portrait and some will be “Disneyworld” and it’s all good as long as you get the light correctly

I would like to send a few pics of my Cobalt in. Is there any way we can get our hands on this calendar when it's done. I'd like one even if my car isn't in it.
