I don't like how some forums do that, I believe it makes newcomers uncomfortable... we should all be here to help in assisting questions where asked and when asked in the proper forum, and most new members have common sense to post in the right forum, or so we should give them the benefit of the doubt.

This is not DSMtalk.com where you can't ask a single question without being banned for "not using the search". (not to that extreme, but you get the Idea.)

Lets make this site a welcome one for everyone to want to come.

I agree with him also but some people keep bashing others who do a repost, i believe a newbie forum would eliminate that and constantly asked questions could just be stickied there... or maybe a FAQ forum?

Good Idea... Easier to copy and paste a link than it is to be rude to a reposter...

i think a newb forum would be a good idea. not one that they are restricted to until they reach a certain post count, just one to introduce themselves. that way it gives them a place to make that first post and hear back from other members. as far as an FAQ section, just make them stickies at the top of their respective forums (tech, drag racing, etc.) make one sticky with links to the best FAQ threads that have a lot of good tech info in them. they can browse these questions and then if necessary, ask one of their own to clear up points of confusion.

remember, newbs need somewhere to start, and there is always one or two most popular questions for them (from another forum I frequent). "which exhaust" or "3.73s or 4.10s?" if i had nickle for everytime a newb asked that question, well you know. all im saying is in some cases you're gonna have to live with having the same questions asked over and over. admit it, you guys hate using the search option just as much as i do and would rather ask and get a direct answer and interact with the rest of board members. my .02

It has it's good points and it's bad points, I guess it's all in the way you look at the root word "newbie"... I guess I just find it a little condesending to newcomers, that's all.

Regardless, I just don't like to see that "initiation" when a new member comes on, like he has to prove himself worthy or something... (don't tell me I'm the only one who has gone through that sort of thing) that is the type of atmosphere and mentality I'd personally like to see the forum avoid. What you said though is healthy for any forum to grow.

i know what you mean. im not implying it should be used as an initiation or anything like that. and i just use the word newb because well, this is the interweb. i dont mean to be condescending by it. if anything it would just give them a place to make that first post and introduce themselves. call it the "new members" forum. its a good idea if the current members make it a point to make a quick post and say welcome to the new people. it shows them that they're welcome on the site and the majority of members arent jack-asses. and, they wouldnt have to post there first if they didnt want to. but a lot of people register and wait a long time before posting bc they dont know where they should post. again, just my thoughts.

I am real new to this forum (all forums) and sometimes it gets a little hard to find something. Usually its been asked 5 or 6 times and I find myself sifting through pages of text looking for one thing.
I think I am fairly computer literate, although I have no clue how some of the things work on the forums or what some things may mean. I feel that a newby forum or one with FAQ's for newby's would be helpful.

I haven't been bashed about reposting although I have seen incidents in the past where it has been downright spiteful and very unneeded. Occasionally a swift smack to the backside of their head may be indicated, I feel that no one on here besides moderators should be making that call. If they choose to it should be done tactfully. Otherwise the role of a moderator is lessened. I also think the moderators should be prepared for 'stupid' questions that have been asked before. Although, no question is 'stupid' unless it isn't asked. Maybe a referral to the newby FAQ would be more appropriate.

just my 2 cents.

i dont think its a good idea, because not everyone will see their first post. When newbies post on the general forum, its like introducing themselves to everyone. Everyone is able to atlest see the newbie's title (as they search for their thread), as it is now. hope i made sense.
