Poll: Proposal to make CobaltSS.net a "no street racing" forum

this thread has the potential to be messy, as we all have passionate views on this, so lets try and keep it civil.

there are alot of car forums out there who specifically ban street racing posts

I personally would like to see that here.
Our cars already have a less than stellar reputation due to the idiocy of some of its drivers on the roads.....

IMO, us allowing it to be talked about, and glorified, might as well be condoning it.
dispite disclaimers that we dont.

Not only would it send a message to the youthful drivers on our forum, that their peers think its stupid, and irresponsible to do it, but it will also reduce largely the flame wars that happen due to threads discussing street races.

Ill leave it at that. and let you make your vote.

Unsure. Street racing is bad, but I do enjoy the threads about it.

i see your point and agree.. They should do away with war stories. it does promote street racing. More like we should have something to post about our runs at the tracks i guess.

I am having a hard time with this. First off, an0malous, I totally get your point. Then again, part of me says that people will learn more from being flamed for street racing than they would just from not being aloud to post because "the admin" doesn't approve. Those in the know, know that it's all the smart people that feel much stronger than "don't approve", but we are not trying to teach those people, right? I just think the "don't street race" message gets across better when people post a race and everyone makes them feel like dipshits. This in theory, though, as we all know that someone posts about beating an EVO from a roll up to 120mph and everyone screams "good kill" or calls bs and the thread becomes a paper race thread....

Like I said, I don't know which way to call it. Maybe, at the top of the kills thread the mods can post a warning that if you post about a street race, prepair to get flamed, and then have people actually follow through.

I don't think it promotes street racing, b/c no matter if that section is pulled or not, people are going to race, and talk about it. I really don't think i've seen a street racing thread that someone hasn't said take it to the track. At least our more experienced and older drivers on here tell them to do it.

There is so much lumped under "Street Racing". It all depends on the situation, location and what the drivers are doing.

A quick pull up to the speed limit plus 10MPH off a green light really isn't much of an issue. Weaving 100MPH through traffic or around 25MPH corners is.

I think the strength of the community, and the approval of your peers is an important thing.
I think us as a community need to set a good example.

when a new member stumbles on this forum, and they see people braggin about kills....
seeing members say "good kill" blah blah.

you dont think that encourages them to go out and get themselves a good kill story to share on the forum?

I think it does.

I'm not so sure. Whenever i read good kill or something of that nature, I look at the info and see if it is. I don't feel pressured to go and get my own to put up.

While you may think this would solve problems. I'm sad to say I don't believe it will. Kids will still go race and wreck. Or race and get caught.. And I haven't heard any knocks on drivers of our cars.. I've heard a lot of knocking on the fact that our cars are domestics.. And have a big ass wing.

See the thing is, its not normally glorified, b/c within the first 5 posts someone is flamming them, telling them to go to the track. Or that they are idiots.

who cares.... seriously.... if they dont have any brains on when to race and when not to, then they deserve whats coming. talkling about it or not talking about it isnt going to do ****.

just like does u getting a ticket make people stop speeding...? nope... nothing will stop it so doing this wont do ****. sorry to burst ur bubble but its not only racing. its stupid people, or people who dont pay attention, or talk on the phone while smoking and doing makeup. or eating or other things. its because its so ******* easy to get a liscense. "ok drive around the block" "you pass".

speed and stupidity causes acidents, and of course the unforseen ( bad parts, blow outs, weather)... not just racing on the street

Don't get rid of it... I think sites where it is banned looks retarded. A disclaimer is just fine.

this has been discussed time and time again, although yours is much more formaly put together. As stated by 2.4Redss, there is alot lumped into street racing, if you stop it here, they will do it elswere, there is not a sole who i know that says "gee, css.nt doesnt want me to talk about it, so i wont do it". They do it cause they want to, and that will never change. What we choose to do in our cars on the streets is our decsions and we all take full resp for that (in not saying "it was because of this website i did it"). If we do this then we might as well ban talking about after market exhausts in wa state (as they are illegal to mod anything louder than stock), lowering our cars (as in wa state isillegal to lower your veichle past the stock height) or about tinting our windows and tail lights. There is so much that is illegal that we still do, even you yourself i am sure (not that i am trying to start a fight.) They have covered themselves by saying "we dont condone it" and if you dont like it, dont go into the thread, as simple as that. Its sort of like watching a high speed chase on tv, you are not condoning it by watching it, you are simply observing and possibly discussing it with others in your area. By talking about racing we are not condoning it or even saying it is smart, we are simply discussing something that we have done...legal or not.

Cliff notes:
this site not allowing discussion about street racing will not make it stop
people will race it they want
talking about it later is not condoning it
cobaltss.net is covered
there are alot of mods we do that are illegal, why is that diff?
we should be able to discuss this if we would like

and that is my 2 cents worth....let us/them talk about it...its our choice to do it and yours to not participate.
